– Theory from Digital Foundry suggests screenshots may be from PC version, not representative of console visuals.
GTA 6 Fans Spot New Details in Latest Screenshots
Fans did not get a third trailer when pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI opened, but Rockstar did release more than 50 new screenshots, now available on the Rockstar Games website. And, as expected from the GTA community, they are already being picked apart and analyzed on Reddit. Many fans are impressed by the sheer variety on display, from new hairstyles and clothing to weapon skins, new cars, vehicle customization and boat modifications.
Retro Vibes and Vice City Callbacks
What stands out most to fans is the much stronger retro aesthetic compared to previously released material. The top comment in the thread argues that GTA 6 has revealed a different side of itself with every new marketing push: Trailer 1 focused heavily on social media satire, Trailer 2 leaned into everyday life in Leonida, while the new pre-order screenshots embrace a distinct ’80s-inspired look. Many fans see this as a deliberate callback to the original Vice City – and the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive. The game is available for pre-order from around $80.
Deep Customization Options Revealed
Customization is another major talking point. As several Redditors point out, Jason and Lucia are barely recognizable in some screenshots, sporting new hairstyles, retro outfits, jewelry, nail designs and what appears to be a much deeper customization system than in GTA V. Fans seem particularly excited about this aspect. User u/lavmuk, for example, writes: “The customization options are going to be insane.” Many other comments echo the same sentiment. There is a huge amount of variety in these new pictures, showing off things like weapon skins and boat mods.
Paywall Controversy and PC Speculation
Not all reactions are positive, however. Another topic receiving plenty of attention is the Ultimate Edition content description, which appears to reserve entire shops for owners of the premium edition. As we reported separately, many fans have criticized Rockstar over what they see as the series’ first major in-game locations being locked behind a paywall. One final detail has also caught the community’s attention: According to a theory from Digital Foundry, the exceptionally high ray-tracing quality seen in the new screenshots suggests they may actually have been captured on the PC version. If true, the visuals shown may not be fully representative of what players can expect on current-generation consoles.
