Today, Google hosted its annual Made by Google event earlier than usual, unveiling a range of devices including smartphones, a foldable phone, a smartwatch, and TWS earphones. Leaks and rumors had already disclosed all the details, leaving no surprises. The Google Pixel 9 has been introduced as the successor to last year’s Pixel 8, featuring a fresh design and several incremental enhancements.
Google Pixel 9 Specifications and Features
The Google Pixel 9 sports a boxy design and a compact form factor with a flat frame, diverging from the slim profile of its predecessor. The horizontal camera bar on the back has been shortened and no longer reaches the edges. On the front, the device boasts a center-aligned punch-hole cutout with a 6.3-inch Actual Display, offering a 120Hz refresh rate. Google has replaced the optical fingerprint scanner with an ultrasonic one.
In terms of camera capabilities, the Google Pixel 9 maintains dual rear cameras with a 50MP primary sensor. The ultra-wide-angle lens has seen a significant upgrade from 12MP to 48MP. For selfies, the device is equipped with a 10.5MP front camera. As usual, the smartphone includes features like Magic Eraser and Best Take.
Under the hood, the Google Pixel 9 is powered by a Tensor G4 processor, paired with 12GB RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. The phone is fueled by a 4,700mAh battery supporting 27W fast charging and wireless charging. It runs on Android 14 OS and is guaranteed to receive seven years of updates. The Emergency SOS feature will alert users about crises and is designed to counter malware and phishing scams, even helping to stay connected without network reception. The device also supports Gemini AI along with other features.

The Google Pixel 9 is available in Obsidian, Porcelain, Rose, and Green colors. The starting price for the 128GB variant is $800/EUR 899, while the 256GB model is priced at $900/EUR 999.
