Asus's Chinese division has confirmed that it will be launching the ROG Phone 8 series of gaming smartphones on January 16 in China. Unlike its predecessor models, it is rumored that the series will not be solely focused on gaming. Leaked renders and specifications of the ROG Phone 8 series indicate a more subdued design with an increased emphasis on camera capabilities.

ROG Phone 8 Introduces Gimbal Stabilization

In a recent Weibo post, Asus announced that the ROG Phone 8 series will feature an anti-shake gimbal to address the issue of shaky hands while shooting videos. This new feature is aimed at enhancing the overall video quality and stability.

Speculated Camera Specifications

According to a leaked report, the ROG Phone 8 Pro is expected to come with a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 32-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. However, there is no information available yet regarding the camera specifications of the standard ROG Phone 8. It is likely to have a similar camera setup, but without the telephoto camera. Asus is expected to release more details about the camera capabilities in the upcoming teasers leading up to the launch.

New Display Design and Other Specifications

Reports suggest that the ROG Phone 8 series will feature a new display design with a centered punch-hole screen. The display is expected to be a 6.78-inch FHD+ 165Hz AMOLED panel. Memory and Storage Options

The ROG Phone 8 is speculated to come with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. On the other hand, the Pro variant is expected to be available in configurations such as 16GB RAM with 512GB storage and 24GB RAM with 1TB storage. Both devices will run on ROG UI-based Android 14.
