Samsung has unveiled its latest mid-range System on Chip (SoC), the Exynos 1580, which has been observed online a couple of times—once on Geekbench and another time on PowerBoard. This new chip takes over from the Exynos 1480, boasting a 17% increase in CPU performance and a similar boost for the GPU. The company has prominently displayed the chip, suggesting it might be featured in the upcoming Galaxy A56 release.
CPU and GPU Enhancements
The Exynos 1580 features an 8-core CPU arrangement, which includes 1 x Cortex-A720 (2.9 GHz), 3 x Cortex-A720 (2.6 GHz), and 4 x Cortex-A520 (1.95 GHz) cores. This represents a significant upgrade from the Cortex-A78 cluster found in its predecessor. On the graphics side, Samsung has incorporated an RDNA-based Xclipse 540 with 2 WGPs (4 CUs). According to the company, this configuration leads to a performance enhancement of up to 37% while reducing power consumption by 20%.
Additional Specifications
In terms of other key specifications, the Exynos 1580 supports UFS 3.1 storage and LPDDR5 RAM (though the throughput is yet to be disclosed). It is capable of handling a 1080p 144 Hz display, 4K 60 FPS video capture, and features a 200 MP single camera sensor. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. The Exynos 5G modem that comes with it supports sub-6 GHz bands, but it does not support mmWave. While Samsung has not clearly stated the manufacturing node for the chip, the mention of "third-generation 4 mm EUV" suggests it could be the same 4LPP process used for the Exynos 2400 and Google Tensor G4.
