Several reports suggest that Xiaomi will be hosting a launch event in China this month to introduce the Xiaomi Ultra smartphone for the Chinese market. Additionally, it is expected that the event will also witness the unveiling of a new tablet. While there has been some uncertainty regarding whether this tablet would belong to Xiaomi’s Pad 6 lineup or a potential Pad 7 series, an image discovered on Xiaomi’s global website indicates that the upcoming tablet will be named the Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro.

Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro Design and Key Specifications (Rumored)

The image of the Xiaomi Pad 6s Pro reveals that it will have a design language similar to the existing Pad 6 products, which include the Pad 6, Pad 6 Pro, and Pad 6 Max. Reports suggest that the Pad 6s Pro has been designed to seamlessly integrate with Xiaomi’s upcoming car, the SU7, with the help of HyperOS.

Samsung expands storage upgrade offer for Galaxy Tab A9 Plus

Samsung has recently announced the Galaxy Tab A9 series, comprising of two tablets: the Galaxy Tab A9 and the Galaxy Tab A9 Plus.

    Free Storage Upgrade Offer

The Galaxy Tab A9 Plus was released in the US in January, and Samsung initially offered a free Book Cover accessory worth $50 with every purchase. However, the company has now replaced this offer with a free storage upgrade offer.

This storage upgrade offer was first introduced by Samsung with the launch of the Galaxy S23 series last year, and it has been continued with the successor Galaxy S24 series as well. Now, the offer has been extended to the budget tablet Galaxy Tab A9 Plus.

Customers in the US who purchase the Galaxy Tab A9 Plus from Samsung.com will receive double the storage and RAM. Additionally, they can also avail up to $90 trade-in bonus.

For the price of the base 4GB + 64GB variant ($219), buyers will receive the higher 8GB + 128GB version instead. The higher memory configuration typically carries a price tag of $269, so customers will essentially save $50, which is the same benefit offered by the free Book Cover offer.

Design of Lenovo Tab Plus revealed through high-definition renders

Windows Report recently provided insights into the design of the upcoming Lenovo Tab Plus tablet, offering a high-definition rendering that showcases its aesthetic and functional features. The Lenovo Tab Plus aligns with current market trends, sporting flat edges and chamfered corners for both style and ease of handling. The front camera is positioned at the top middle of the front panel. It contributes to the device’s modern and sleek appearance.

    Thicker Lower Portion

Examining the side profile of the tablet, it’s evident that the lower portion of the Lenovo Tab Plus is notably thicker than the upper part, almost doubling in thickness. Despite this variation, the tablet opts for a flat effect rather than a cylindrical chin, enhancing grip and usability. The left side of the fuselage houses a USB-C port, while the right side accommodates a headphone jack, volume buttons, two microphones, and a SIM/SD card slot. Notably, the device boasts large chambers for Dolby Atmos speakers on both sides, ensuring immersive audio experiences.

  • Possible Development of Pixel Tablet 2 Implied by Codenames in Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1

Possible Development of Pixel Tablet 2 Implied by Codenames in Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1

Recent findings from the latest Android 14 QPR3 beta release suggest that Google is gearing up for the development of a next-generation Pixel Tablet 2. The discovery of two new codenames, “Clementine” and “Kiyomi,” alongside established naming conventions in Google’s internal development process, indicates a continuation of the Pixel Tablet series.

The codename “Citron” indicates a Pixel Tablet iteration under development

Previously, the Pixel Tablet project was associated with codenames like “Tangor” and “Tangorpro,” with the latter eventually becoming the released Pixel Tablet last year. The presence of additional codenames like “Citron” hinted at the possibility of other tablet iterations in development. Moreover, internal references to two versions of the tablet’s bundled dock, named “Korlan” and “Yuzu,” suggest Google’s intention to offer multiple accessories for the Pixel Tablet lineup, possibly including a charging-only dock.

The association of these codenames with fruits, particularly those in the citrus family, has been a consistent theme throughout Google’s Pixel Tablet development process. In horticulture, a tangor refers to a hybrid citrus fruit resulting from crossing a sweet orange with another citrus variety. Common examples of tangors include clementines and kiyomi, with the latter originating in Japan.

The Pixel Tablet 2 may upgrade to an OLED screen from the Pixel Tablet’s IPS LCD one

While the specifics of the new Pixel Tablet 2 remain uncertain, speculation points towards an enhanced device with potential features such as an OLED screen with a high refresh rate, support for a Pixel Stylus and Keyboard, and compatibility with a variety of accessories beyond a simple dock. These predictions align with the desires of users, including those outside of the Apple ecosystem who seek a premium tablet experience for tasks like architecture.

The unveiling of “Clementine” and “Kiyomi” in the Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 builds anticipation for the future of Google’s tablet offerings. While there are no concrete details available yet, the citrus-themed codenames suggest that the Pixel Tablet 2 could be on the horizon. However, it’s important to approach these predictions with caution, as Google’s plans may evolve or change over time.

Tablet Sales Decline by 11% in Q4 2023

This slump brings the total decline for the year to 10%, with just 135.3 million tablets shipped – the lowest since 2011.

“Even with holiday promotions and bundle deals, the tablet market couldn’t escape its slide,” said Himani Mukka, an analyst at Canalys.

Predicted Rebound in the Tablet Market

However, she predicts a rebound in 2024, thanks to factors like better inventory management, government purchases, and new tablet models from players like TCL and Lenovo.

Apple is also expected to refresh its iPad lineup this year which could further help boost the market.

    Apple Remains Top Tablet Seller

Despite the overall decline, Apple remained the top seller, shipping 14.8 million iPads in the final quarter – though that’s still a 24% drop compared to 2022. Samsung followed in second with 6.8 million units, down 10.5% annually.

They say bridging this gap and creating a more unified user experience across devices will be crucial for vendors.

PC Shipments Expected to Rise in 2024

In contrast to the tablet market, PC shipments are expected to see an 8% rise in 2024, reaching 267 million units. This growth is attributed to the upcoming Windows refresh cycle and the emergence of AI-capable and Arm-based devices.

Huawei achieves significant growth amidst an 11% global decline in tablet sales during Q4 2023.
