The latest version, 1.7, features the Linux kernel version 6.11.4, along with updated desktop environments, applications, smaller ISO sizes, and various fixes.

    The KDE version of PorteuX is a bit larger than 500 MB, specifically 551 MB for KDE 6.2.1 and 502 MB for KDE 5.23.5, while the other versions remain under the 500 MB limit. The lightest version is the one based on LXDE 0.10.1, which is only 431 MB. It’s important to note, however, that there are no web browsers, email clients, or office software bundled with it.     The folks at the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab recently took a look into WeChat’s encryption and found some potential security weaknesses. With more than a billion users logging in every month, WeChat operates a tailored version of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 protocol, which they have named MMTLS.

    Two Layers of Protection

    Prior to 2016, WeChat only employed business-layer encryption for its requests. The addition of MMTLS was meant to improve the situation. Yet, while it enhanced the app’s security by making internal encryption more difficult to breach, the researchers claim it still doesn’t fully meet the modern cryptographic standards expected from an app of this scale.

    A Larger Issue in China’s Tech Landscape
