    Lossless Scaling 3 has recently launched on Steam, bringing significant upgrades. The new version includes a frame generation mode that can reach up to 20x, while also enhancing performance in the 2x and 3x modes. YouTuber ETA Prime has thoroughly tested these improvements.

    Overview of Testing

    In his video, ETA Prime begins by explaining the core features of Lossless Scaling 3, showcasing its various modes and settings. He specifically put the updated software through its paces on the ROG Ally X, which features the previous-generation Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip. Among the games evaluated was Doom Eternal.

    Performance Metrics

    When playing Doom Eternal without Lossless Scaling 3 or any form of scaling, the game ran at an average of 60 FPS at 900p on the High settings. However, when using LSFG 3.0 with the scaling mode set to “X2,” the frame generation effectively doubled the FPS while keeping frame latency minimal. Another game examined was Hogwarts Legacy, notorious for challenging the integrated graphics of older handhelds (Z1 Extreme ROG Ally currently priced at $499.99 on Best Buy).

    At 720p on High settings, the Z1 Extreme handheld achieved an average of 44 FPS. With Lossless Scaling 3 applied under the same conditions, the average FPS increased to approximately 74. Additionally, ETA Prime tested Starfield, which saw an improvement from around 30 FPS to nearly 60 FPS.

    Further Testing

    For the 3x mode, ETA Prime evaluated it using Forza Horizon 5. Without Lossless Scaling 3, the game averaged about 40 FPS at 1080p on Ultra settings. However, with the “X3” mode enabled, the FPS soared to around 100. The YouTuber highlighted that even in this mode, the frame generation tool does not significantly impact frame latency. To give some background, their previous collaboration created the Viture X 8BitDo Ultimate C, a see-through version of the Ultimate C featuring an Xbox-style layout.

    The upcoming 8BitDo and Viture device will keep some design elements from last year’s joint effort, including orange joystick accents. Viture has indicated that this new product will be a “mobile gaming accessory,” which means it won’t be like some of the latest 8BitDo releases, including the Ultimate 2C.

    Upcoming Product Details

    From what we can see, the device shown seems to be a modified Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller. This smartphone accessory has been available since late October and is priced at $49.99. It features Hall effect joysticks, plus it can provide up to 14 hours of gameplay with its 350 mAh battery. The telescopic controller can accommodate smartphones that are as tall as 170 mm, which is even larger than the impressive Nubia Z70 Ultra that we reviewed a few weeks back. The official launch of the next product from 8BitDo and Viture is set for March.

Recently, initial benchmarks from Computerbase have surfaced, showcasing the performance of the Blackwell-based GPUs like the GeForce RTX 5090, RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070 compared to their Ada Lovelace predecessors.

    Performance Highlights

    The real capabilities of Nvidia’s top-tier GeForce RTX 5090 become clear in games like Resident Evil 4 and Horizon Forbidden West. When compared to the GeForce RTX 4090, the former runs about 25% faster on the new Blackwell architecture without any AI-driven upscaling, while the latter shows similar performance using an older DLSS version.

    DLSS 4.0 Impact

    However, when DLSS 4.0 is utilized, there’s a performance increase of more than double in titles like Black Myth: Wukong, Alan Wake 2, and Star Wars: Outlaws. Even though the GeForce RTX 5090 can handle these games at max settings natively, DLSS 4.0 reportedly offers a 5x improvement in frame rates, according to Nvidia’s tests.

    RTX 5080 Limitations

    On the other hand, the GeForce RTX 5080 doesn’t impress much. Without DLSS, its performance increase over the RTX 4080 is minimal. This isn’t surprising since both cards share similar VRAM and CUDA core specifications, and it appears that the additional power and GDDR7 memory on the RTX 5080 aren’t making a significant difference.

    Even with the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 boasting considerably more and quicker GDDR7 VRAM compared to the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4070, the actual performance gains in games aren’t remarkable. Once again, significant improvements only arise when DLSS 4.0 is active. This trend is likely to persist across the entire Blackwell series, including the laptop models.

    Overall Assessment

    While some may find the GeForce RTX 5090 compelling enough to upgrade from their RTX 4090, the rest of the series doesn’t seem to deliver substantial generational enhancements. However, advancements like DLSS 4 and Neural Rendering are exciting from a technical perspective.

    In conclusion, the GeForce RTX 50 series could be a good option for users with RTX 30 series cards. Specifically, the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5070 may serve well as solid choices for 1080p and 1440p gaming, respectively. It might be wise to wait for AMD’s launch of the RDNA 4-based Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, which appear to show some promise based on early rumors.

    The Farm 51 Launches Kickstarter for New Post-Apocalyptic RPG

    I’m not sure who is approving games that are like Stalker, but I appreciate it. It’s a fantastic time for Stalker enthusiasts. Not only are we anticipating Forest Reigns, but The Farm 51, the minds behind Chernobylite, have launched a Kickstarter for a sequel.

    Chernobylite’s Success

    The original game, which came out in 2021, has received 82% positive feedback on Steam. It’s about as close to Stalker as you can get without actually naming it that, featuring a spot-on rendition of The Zone called Exclusion Zone. However, it also has its unique features, such as the ability to build bases. True to the spirit of Stalker, players have pointed out bugs and performance hiccups. Still, one thing that nearly everyone agrees on is that the 3D-scanned environments are visually impressive.

    Great Discounts Available

    If you’re interested in trying the first game, it’s currently discounted by 75% until January 28th on Steam.

    Chernobylite 2 appears to be sticking with the same formula but will include various enhancements, such as a character customization feature and a change from first-person to third-person perspective. The Kickstarter has already achieved half of its target with 29 days remaining.
