iOS 18 Beta: Key Improvements You Need to Know
Apple recently posted the iOS 18 beta release notes on the Apple Developer site, detailing updates to FaceTime, Siri, and the Wallet app.
Currently, iOS 18 is in Beta for members of the Apple Developer Program, with a public beta set for release in July. A wider release is anticipated in September. The SDK is included with Xcode 16, downloadable from the Mac App Store. Below are some key improvements.
Audio Enhancement in Siri
Apple states that iOS 18 has a new setting that can significantly improve Siri’s audio quality on Bluetooth car devices without CarPlay. This new option is accessible through the Settings app under Siri > Siri Responses > “Respond over Media Source.” The feature description notes, “Siri will respond over A2DP car stereos, which is ideal while listening to media from your phone.”
Improvements in FaceTime
FaceTime in iOS 18 will utilize more data in Low Power Mode when network conditions are favorable, enhancing video call quality.
Security Enhancement in the Wallet App
When adding an ID to the Wallet app on an iPhone, users may now be prompted to take a live photo, either instead of or in addition to the usual head and facial movements. Apple explains that the device will assess the live photo to verify the authenticity of the person adding the document.
Initially announced in 2021, the ability to add a driver’s license or ID to the Wallet app has only been rolled out in four U.S. states: Arizona, Maryland, Colorado, and Georgia. This feature offers a convenient, contactless way to present identification or proof of age at select airports, businesses, and venues.

New Nest Thermostat with Soil Radar Technology in Development
A mysterious “wireless device” from Google recently surfaced in the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) documents, suggesting new application possibilities for Soli radar technology. This device features short-range 60GHz Soli radar technology, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity, and includes a base plate.
A Mysterious Device with 60GHz Soli Radar Technology
According to IT Home, Soli radar is a 60GHz mm-wave radar technology created by Google and Infineon for close-range perception tasks. Google is responsible for the signal processing and software components, while Infineon Technologies owns the intellectual property rights to the chip hardware. A similar product first emerged in 2016, with a second generation debuting in 2018, utilized in the Pixel 4’s gesture recognition module and the Nest Hub’s sleep monitoring feature.
Through its developer program, Google has managed to introduce a series of innovative applications globally.
Potential New Nest Thermostat
ITHome speculates that the mysterious product might be a new Nest Thermostat. FCC documents indicate that the device lacks other radio modules apart from the 2.4GHz and 60GHz bands.
The Nest Thermostat released in 2020 also only supports these two frequency bands and employs Soli radar to automatically illuminate the display when a user approaches. The device will likely need a constant power supply since there is no mention of a battery. It supports only 802.11n Wi-Fi on the 2.4GHz band, making it unlikely to be a smart speaker, as even the more affordable Nest Mini supports the 5GHz band.
Possibility of a Smartwatch
It could also be a smartwatch from Google, given that they don’t use the 5GHz band in this product category. For the Wi-Fi-only version of the watch, 2.4GHz, Bluetooth, and the new radar technology should suffice. However, the device will maintain a distance of at least 20 cm from the human body during normal use, making it unlikely to be a smartwatch and more akin to the Nest Thermostat released in 2020.

OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite 5G Launch: Key Details for June 24
Two months back, OnePlus introduced the Nord CE 4 globally. Now, the brand is set to unveil a Lite variant of this phone, named the Nord CE 4 Lite 5G. A microsite showcasing the design of the upcoming model has been launched by OnePlus. Additionally, it has been confirmed that the smartphone will be available on Amazon in India. This new device will be the successor to last year’s Nord CE 3 Lite 5G.

The launch date for the OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite 5G is June 24 at 7 pm IST. OnePlus has expressed that this new model aims to revolutionize the budget smartphone sector, addressing common everyday concerns of smartphone users.
The Nord CE 4 Lite 5G will share the same design as the Nord CE 4 (review). However, it will not feature an alert slider; instead, it has a SIM tray slot on the left and power and volume rocker buttons on the right. Oppo A3 Pro India: Leaked Images, Specs & Pricing
After the launch of the Oppo A3 Pro in China, which was recently rebranded and introduced in India as the Oppo F27 Pro+ (review), the brand is also developing an Indian version of the Oppo A3 Pro. This new variant has been spotted in live images shared by tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore and 91mobiles.
The live image showcases a design that is notably different from the Chinese model of the Oppo F27 Pro+. The device features a rectangular camera module with two camera sensors on the back and a third cutout containing a ring LED light. The image also highlights a glossy Purple color back.
On the front, the device boasts a flat display with thick bezels and includes a punch-hole cutout for the front camera. The box image reveals that the device includes a 360-degree damage-proof armor body, a feature that is also present in the Chinese version of the Oppo A3 Pro. Additionally, the device features a Splash Touch capability, allowing the touch screen to function even when wet.

The Indian variant of the Oppo A3 Pro will feature a 6.6-inch display panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. OnePlus Nord 2T Gets Android 14 Upgrade and June Patch in India
OnePlus Nord 2T has received a new update today, integrating the June security patch. The Nord 2T was introduced by OnePlus in May 2021, originally launching with Android 12. As a result, the major Android updates for this model have now concluded.
Update Details
OnePlus had committed to providing 2 years of significant Android updates and 3 years of security patches for the Nord 2T. While the Nord 2T won’t receive further Android version updates, it will continue to get security patches for another year, given that it’s now June 2024. This latest update is primarily focused on security enhancements. According to a post on the OnePlus Community, the OxygenOS 14.0.0.605 update is currently being rolled out for Indian devices (Update version: CPH2401_14.0.0.605(EX01)).

Moto G85 Price Revealed on European Retailer
The Moto G85 was recently seen on the TENAA certification site and is set to launch as the Motorola S50 Neo in China on June 25. Now, its global version has surfaced on China’s 3C certification site and a European retailer listing, revealing several key details. The Moto G85 is expected to be the successor to the Moto G84 5G.

On the 3C certification site, the Moto G85 is identified by the model number XT2427-4 for the China variant of the S50 Neo. The global variant carries model numbers XT2427-2 and XT2427-3. According to the certification listing, the Moto G85 will support 33W fast charging, an upgrade from the 30W support on its predecessor. The charger is listed with model number MC-338, capable of speeds at 15W, 27W, 30W, and 33W during testing.
Meanwhile, the Moto G85 also appeared on a European retailer site. The device will be available in Gray, Olive, and Surf colors. It will be priced at EUR 349 for the 12GB + 256GB RAM and storage configuration.

Apple Intelligence Features Delayed to Next Year: Here’s Why
Apple introduced new AI capabilities branded as Apple Intelligence at the annual WWDC event last week. These features are set to be incorporated into iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia for iPhones, iPads, and Macs, respectively. Although the new software versions will become available to the public later this year, they won’t come preloaded with all Apple Intelligence features. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the rollout will be gradual, extending into 2025.
Apple Intelligence’s Gradual Rollout
Gurman reports that Apple plans to introduce the new Intelligence features in phases over several months. The Cupertino-based tech giant aims to avoid the issues that have plagued other AI systems. Typically, Apple releases features announced at WWDC in September when the new iPhones are launched. However, this time, Apple has disclosed that the latest AI technology will not adhere to a strict schedule. During the recent keynote, the company outlined a roadmap for what will be available later this year and early next year.
Strategic Delays and Resource Management
Gurman points out that the delayed rollout of Apple Intelligence has its advantages. It allows Apple to manage its resources more effectively by not overwhelming its staff with the simultaneous release of all features. Initially, Apple will focus on American English, giving the company more time to train its AI models in other languages, a process that could take years. Additionally, the tech giant will take its time to bolster its cloud infrastructure to prevent server crashes due to high user demand. Apple also aims to improve the accuracy of information delivered by its AI services by starting with a smaller user base.
Some features of Apple Intelligence, including the enhanced Siri assistant capabilities showcased at WWDC—such as contextual searches and on-screen awareness—will not be available until next year. The ChatGPT integration is also slated for a 2025 release. On the plus side, the initial version of Apple Intelligence will include features like notification prioritization, webpage summarization, writing tools, image generation, and Genmoji.
Non-AI Features
Gurman also mentions that non-AI features, such as updates to the Mail app and the ability to edit spatial videos, will not be included in the initial software version updates.
