Xiaomi Officially Denies Rumors About Xiaomi SU8

Wang Hua, the head of Xiaomi’s Public Relations Department, has officially refuted the speculation regarding the Xiaomi SU8. He clarified that there is no such model currently in existence.

Recently, there have been numerous rumors about the Xiaomi SU8. On July 15, an automotive media outlet created two posters for the Xiaomi SU8. One of these posters indicated that the "Xiaomi SU8" would be revealed on July 16. The poster also featured realistic images of the car, which was touted as the successor to the Xiaomi SU7.

    Speculation and Confirmation

When the official announcement came, confirming that the posters were fake and that no successor to the SU7 was being developed, many people began to speculate about a potential Xiaomi SU9. Recently, some spy photos emerged online, purportedly showing Xiaomi’s first SUV. According to an earlier report, the vehicle is internally codenamed MX11 and is anticipated to launch in 2025. Fan-made renderings of the SUV incorporate many design features from the Xiaomi SU7, such as the headlights, door handles, pebble-style laser radar, Saturn ring taillights, and petal-shaped alloy wheels.

According to CNMO, this SUV is likely to become the company’s second electric vehicle (EV). However, its launch is still at least a year away.

    Production and Sales

In the meantime, the company achieved sales of over 10,000 units of the SU7 in June and is projected to sell another 10,000 units this month. Xiaomi Auto aims to deliver a total of 100,000 EVs this year. To meet this demand, the company has increased its EV production. They initiated double-shift production in June to ensure they meet their monthly delivery goal of 10,000 units.

  • Tesla Delays Robotaxi Unveiling to October, Market Impact Expected

Tesla Delays Robotaxi Unveiling to October, Market Impact Expected

Tesla has delayed its much-awaited Robotaxi unveiling event, originally set for August, to October. As reported by Bloomberg, this internal decision was made to allow teams more time to create additional prototypes.

Tesla’s design team was instructed to revise certain car elements. This communication underscores the company’s dedication to ensuring the prototypes are of the highest quality and ready for public introduction.

    Initial Announcement and Market Reaction

CEO Elon Musk had initially set the event date eight months ago. Anticipation around the event led to an 11-day streak of gains for Tesla’s stock, adding over $257 billion to the company’s market capitalization. However, the delay has resulted in an 8.4% drop in Tesla’s stock on Thursday, the largest decline since January. Conversely, shares of competitors Uber Technologies and Lyft soared on the news, with Uber’s stock rising by 6.1% and Lyft’s shares increasing by 4.6%.

What is the significance of the Robotaxi Project?

The idea of an autonomous taxi service stems from Elon Musk‘s second “master plan” for Tesla in 2016. Musk has prioritized this project over the development of an affordable electric vehicle. Despite years of promotion, Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) technology still requires constant monitoring and does not make the cars fully autonomous. Nevertheless, Musk and his engineers have recently become more optimistic about FSD’s potential.

Tesla’s Recent Performance and Analyst Perspectives

Tesla delivered 6.6% fewer cars in the first half of the year and produced 14% fewer vehicles in the second quarter compared to the previous year, in an effort to reduce inventory. The addition of the Cybertruck to Tesla’s lineup has also been a recent focus.

Wedbush analyst Dan Ives suggests that the timing of the Robotaxi showcase is less critical than the content and posits that the delay may lead to a more robust and well-prepared event. Ives advises investors not to fret over the delay, emphasizing that the timeline for robotaxis, partnerships, and autonomous technology remains unchanged for Tesla’s bullish outlook.

The original event date of August 8, set in April, may have been overly optimistic. Tesla is likely ensuring that the prototypes meet quality standards before the event. Reports indicate that Tesla is using current vehicle mules equipped with exterior cameras to collect data for the Robotaxi development.

Despite the delay, the focus remains on the event’s content and the preparedness of the prototypes. Investors and experts are optimistic that the postponed event in October will provide a more detailed and impressive showcase of Tesla’s Robotaxi initiative.

The success of the event and the eventual launch of the Robotaxi service are critical for Tesla’s positioning in the autonomous vehicle market and its future as a technology leader.

  • Vivo Launches Car Video Streaming; Not Available for Global Users

Vivo Launches Car Video Streaming; Not Available for Global Users

Vivo, a prominent Chinese smartphone manufacturer, has unveiled a new capability for its OriginOS software that enables video streaming from your smartphone to a car display. Unfortunately, this feature might not be available to users outside China due to the limited reach of OriginOS.

The "vivo smart car" feature permits users to stream videos directly to their car’s display through specific apps on their Vivo phones. Presently, it is compatible with seven well-known Chinese video platforms: iQiyi, Tencent Video, Youku Video, Bilibili, Douyin (China’s version of TikTok), Kuaishou (another short-form video app), and Xigua Video (owned by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok).

    App Compatibility and Features

A notable restriction of this new feature is that Tencent Video and Youku Video demand phones running Android 14 or above. Conversely, for short-form video apps such as Douyin and Kuaishou, Vivo has thoughtfully included a "page-turning" feature (translated from Chinese), which seemingly allows users to navigate short-form videos with ease.

It’s crucial to note that this feature can only be utilized when the car is stationary and not while driving. Vivo emphasizes user safety and compliance with traffic regulations by preventing video applications during vehicle operation.

    Availability and Alternatives

Although the in-car video app may appear to be a handy addition, it’s significant to remember the restricted availability of OriginOS. Unlike Vivo’s standard Funtouch OS, which is available on global phones, OriginOS is currently confined to the Chinese market. Unless Vivo decides to incorporate similar functionalities into its global software or expand OriginOS more widely, international users will not have access to this feature.

For international Vivo users who might feel left out of this in-car video feature, existing solutions like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay provide comparable functionalities. These platforms integrate with various streaming services, allowing users to enjoy their favorite content while keeping their phones securely stowed away.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra in India Gets HyperOS Camera Update

Xiaomi’s latest camera flagship has made its way to India this year, and a new update has been rolled out to enhance its features. This update, which is 272 MB in size, introduces a new portrait effect and various camera optimizations. It is currently being released in phases.

Sandeep Sarma, Xiaomi India’s PR representative, announced the update on Twitter, emphasizing the new portrait effect. With the update, users can now utilize a 120mm lens for portrait mode. Additionally, the default focal length can now be adjusted.

Portrait Mode on 5x Camera – 120mm Lens

The primary camera has a 23mm focal length, but the update allows users to set their default focal length to 28mm or 35mm as well. This is more than just a novelty; many smartphone cameras suffer from edge distortion, but with the 35mm focal length, even if you need to move a bit further from your subject, you can achieve a new perspective without significantly compromising quality. The portrait mode has also been enhanced with two new options: Master Portrait and Leica Portrait.

1x Main Camera Functions Like a 35mm Lens

The update carries the version number 1.0.7.0.UNAINXM and is being rolled out gradually. If it hasn’t arrived on your device yet, rest assured it will soon.

  • Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 Render Reveals Updated Camera Specs and Layout

Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 Render Reveals Updated Camera Specs and Layout

Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable phone, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, is expected to be unveiled on July 19. Ahead of its release, new concept renders of the device have been leaked online by "Fixed Focus Digital." Below is the latest concept render.

The latest render reveals a triple camera setup on the back, including a periscope telephoto lens. The camera system is rumored to support 100X zoom. However, it’s notable that this system has one less camera compared to the Mix Fold 3, which featured two telephoto cameras providing 3.2x and 5x optical zoom. The camera module in the Mix Fold 4 appears slightly wider than its predecessor.

    Outer Screen and Camera System

The outer screen maintains the same hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera and features slightly slimmer bezels. According to the render, the camera system will also incorporate Leica color science. The Leica branding and the flash module are positioned in the same spot within the large rectangular camera island. Additionally, the render suggests a light grey color option for the Mix Fold 4.

    Previous Render Differences

It’s important to note that this latest render differs somewhat from a previously revealed render of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4. The earlier render showcased four cameras in a dual vertical layout, with the flash module relocated near the cameras and the Leica branding centered. The camera island design also varies slightly, and the previous render did not include a periscope camera.

These discrepancies indicate that the renders come from unofficial sources and may be based on different prototypes Xiaomi has tested. Therefore, the final product may have a design that differs from these concept renders.
