G-Shock Red Lantern Series Hits US Shores
Casio has officially launched its G-Shock Red Lantern series in the US for $190, with the G-Shock DW-6900AKA-4 and DW-5600AKA-4. The series was first launched by the company in its home market of Japan in April. Both watches are part of the Aka-Chochin series, which takes its name from the traditional red paper lanterns that are often hung outside taverns in Japan.
Design and Inspiration Behind the Red Lantern Models
Casio’s G-Shock Red Lantern watches are inspired by red paper Akachochin lanterns that frequently hang outside bars in Japan. Both the DW-5600AKA-4 and DW-6900AKA-4 feature red colored resin casing and straps. There are black accents, like Japanese characters that read “shock resistant”, buttons and band loops. And the LED backlight used to illuminate the digital display has a red tint.
Two Distinct Watch Profiles Offered
The G-Shock DW-5600 is a rectangular digital watch, and the DW-6900 is a round watch with triple circle graphics above a thinner display. Both have a 1/100th second stopwatch, timer and alarm and both are water resistant to 200 m.
Simultaneous Launch of Bold Camo Collection
In addition to the Red Lantern series, Casio has also introduced the G-Shock Bold Camo collection to the US market. The four new models—the DW6900CMG-3, GA700CMG-3A, GAV01CMG-3A, and GM6900CMG-3—are currently available on the G-Shock US website. Priced between $145 and $280, each watch in this rugged lineup includes a complimentary G-Shock Camo Pouch with purchase.
