Following a series of leaks and rumors in the previous months, Casio has made it official with the announcement of the G-Shock GM-5600RH-1. This special edition watch is a product of a collaboration with NBA player Rui Hachimura. Marking the fifth Signature Model for the Japanese athlete, this time it’s built on the GM-5600 series, with various custom enhancements.

Unique Design

The watch boasts a “strong black base with vibrant red highlights,” a design Casio claims symbolizes Hachimura’s determination and zeal to conquer challenges. Similar to earlier Hachimura models, the GM-5600RH-1 showcases his personal emblem, the “Black Samurai” logo. This logo artfully combines the kanji character for “eight” (八), which is his jersey number, with a sword to create the “H” for Hachimura. The logo is prominently displayed on the watch face and is also engraved on the back case, while his autograph is etched onto the band ring.

Functional Features

Equipped with an inverted display and a bright LED, this watch has a battery life that lasts up to 5 years, although it doesn’t include solar charging. As expected from G-Shock, it has excellent shock resistance and a water resistance of 20 bar. It also comes packed with timekeeping functions such as a stopwatch, fully automatic calendar, alarm, and flashing notifications for alarms, hourly signals, or timers.

Release Details

The G-Shock GM-5600RH-1 x Rui Hachimura will first be available in Japan, hitting the market later this month for 39,600 yen (approximately $267). It will be presented in specially designed packaging for this collaboration. While Casio has not yet revealed information about its release in other countries, considering last year’s collaboration expanded to the US and other regions, it seems likely that this edition won’t remain exclusive to Japan.

The inaugural Rui Hachimura G-Shock was the GST-B100RH, which debuted in 2020. Each subsequent model has drawn inspiration from different G-Shock series. For instance, the third collaboration was based on the iconic DW-6900 series, while the upcoming 2024 model takes cues from the GA-B2100.
