Google's Android operating system is generally associated with its search engine, offering benefits like smooth integration but also sparking concerns about user privacy. The concept of separating Android from Google is not a fresh one, and Brax Technologies is revisiting this idea. Their new device, the BraX3, emphasizes privacy by minimizing Google's influence in various aspects.
Privacy Features
In this device, the Google search engine is turned off, along with the location services tied to it. Users don’t need a Google account for the BraX3, which helps keep their data from being easily tracked. The company claims that the BraX3 does not connect to Google servers; instead, it relies on its own servers. Even without Google, apps are expected to operate as usual. Official communications suggest that ads will be blocked, and the data generated by apps won't be examined. Additionally, while Android is the primary operating system, Ubuntu Touch will also be available later on.

The BraX3 is equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 6300, a capable 5G processor paired with 8 GB of RAM. It features 256 GB of internal storage that can be expanded via a microSD card. The phone has a thickness of 8.94 mm and sports a 6.56-inch display with a resolution of 1,612 x 720 pixels and a 90 Hz refresh rate. The rear camera has a resolution of 50 MP, while the front camera offers 5 MP. The device is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery, which charges at 10 watts. It includes a fingerprint sensor and supports both eSIM and two physical SIM cards, along with NFC capabilities.
Pricing and Availability
During the crowdfunding campaign, backers can grab the smartphone starting at a price of $299. However, potential buyers should be aware of the usual financial risks associated with such projects. The expected delivery date is set for March 2025.
