Xiaomi appears to be finalizing preparations for the global launch of its next budget smartphone, the Redmi 17 4G. Regulatory filings in multiple countries and a fresh leak have shed light on the device’s design, key specifications, and expected European pricing, pointing to a substantial update over its predecessor.
Design and display improvements
The handset, identified by the model number “2606FRN72Y,” has surfaced in Malaysia’s SIRIM certification database and was previously recorded in Indonesia’s SDPPI system, indicating an international release is near. According to leaked renders, the Redmi 17 4G will be offered in four color options: Black, Deep Blue, Oak Green, and Lotus Purple. It is said to feature a large 6.9-inch display with a resolution of 1,600 x 720 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering a fluid viewing experience despite the HD+ panel.
Internal hardware and camera system
Under the hood, the device is tipped to rely on a MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra chipset, paired with up to 6GB of RAM and configurations reaching 256GB of internal storage. For photography, Xiaomi is expected to equip the phone with a 50-megapixel main rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing sensor for selfies and video calls.
Battery, charging, and additional features
Perhaps the most notable upgrade concerns battery capacity and charging speed.
