Withings has launched its latest Wi-Fi smart scale, the BodyFit, bringing advanced body-composition analysis and cardiovascular insights to the home bathroom. Priced at $280 (€250), the device pairs a standard weighing platform with a retractable handle, enabling a broader electrical pathway for segmental readings. Body-weight precision is specified down to 50 g (0.11 lb), though the company notes this figure represents display resolution, not the overall measurement uncertainty.

A Handle-Based Approach to Full-Body Scanning

Unlike conventional smart scales that rely solely on foot electrodes, the BodyFit incorporates additional electrodes in the handle. This design allows impedance measurements to travel across different body segments, including the entire torso and upper limbs. For users with uneven muscle distribution—such as cyclists or runners who train primarily below the waist—the handle can yield more representative composition data. Withings cites an internal study showing that the BodyFit’s readings achieve a 99% correlation with Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) scans, a clinical reference standard for measuring fat and lean mass.

Cardiovascular Screening and Smart Features

Beyond weight and body-composition metrics, the BodyFit assesses arterial stiffness to help users gauge cardiovascular risk. All results are presented on a 2.8-inch color display with a 320 × 240 pixel resolution, which can also surface progress trends and local weather forecasts. The scale syncs with the Withings app over both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, consistent with the company’s existing ecosystem.

Subscription Model and Market Position

Some of the BodyFit’s premium analytics are tied to an optional Withings+ subscription. For shoppers seeking a more budget-friendly device from the same brand, the Withings Body Comp—which omits the handle-based segmental scanning—retails around $198. The BodyFit arrives at a time when DEXA-correlated accuracy and cardiovascular markers are increasingly serving as differentiators in the high-end smart-scale market, offering consumers an at-home alternative to specialized clinic visits.
