Elecrow has rolled out a new touchscreen display that remains affordable at $30. It is not a ready-to-use Echo Show alternative, but a model that requires programming before use. With LVGL support, creating user interfaces should be straightforward. The device can function as a smart home control panel, for personal projects, or as a replacement component.

Display and performance

The unit features an IPS display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels and capacitive touch support. It can display current temperatures and the status of smart-home devices, and it supports control once the system is properly integrated. Maximum brightness is rated at 450 cd/m², which may limit readability in direct sunlight. Waveshare states that the 5-inch ESP32-S3 IPS display is designed to operate in temperatures from -30°C to 80°C.

Connectivity and hardware

Wireless options include 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. Power is delivered via USB Type-C. The device is built around an ESP32-S3 SoC and supports UART and SPI interfaces. The SPI interface can also connect sensors and other peripherals, and there are speaker connections available. The unit measures 137 x 84 x 13.75 millimeters and does not include a dedicated enclosure. A larger variant is available for purchase.
