TCL has unveiled a pair of premium displays in China under its X3B OLED+ series, positioning one model as a notably cost-conscious alternative to Apple’s 27-inch Studio Display.
A Studio Display rival emerges
Apple’s baseline Studio Display currently retails from $1,539 and is built around an IPS (“Retina”) panel with a 5,120-by-2,880 resolution, a 600-nit brightness rating, and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. By contrast, the newly announced TCL 27X3B centers on a Tandem WOLED panel. Its brightness peaks at 1,500 nits, and it pushes the refresh rate to 280Hz, though it runs a native QHD resolution rather than 5K. A low-reflection coating is included to improve visibility in varied lighting, and the screen claims 99.5% DCI-P3 color coverage, which should suit demanding professional workflows.
Shared design language and audio
Much like Apple’s display, the 27-inch TCL monitor incorporates a built-in speaker system, in this case tuned by Bang & Olufsen. TCL also emphasizes so-called “fast frame technology” to keep latency low, and the overall design aesthetic remains close in spirit to the Studio Display.
A larger screen with dual refresh modes
The step-up 32-inch model, called the 32X3B OLED+, also uses a Tandem WOLED panel but introduces a switchable performance profile. For competitive gaming it can run a 480Hz refresh rate at FHD resolution, while a 240Hz mode lifts the picture to full UHD. Maximum brightness stays at 1,500 nits, and it retains the low-reflection coating and 99.5% DCI-P3 color coverage. Additionally, the 32X3B features a richer port layout than its smaller sibling, including a 90W USB-C connection.
Pricing and global availability
On price, the 27X3B is the more accessible entry at CNY 3,699, or roughly $546. The 32X3B moves up to CNY 6,499, approximately $959. TCL regularly brings its products outside of China, and these OLED monitors are expected to reach international markets at a later date.
