Gaming display technology appears poised for another dramatic leap forward, with early details emerging of a prototype monitor that sets a far higher bar than anything previously announced. Just one year after demonstrating an 800Hz panel, manufacturer HKC is now reportedly developing a triple-mode screen capable of reaching a 1,300Hz refresh rate.
A Sudden Jump Beyond Existing Records
According to the report, the prototype is built around a Fast TN panel. In a pattern familiar to extreme-refresh displays, it is expected to sacrifice some resolution in pursuit of raw speed, relying on multiple operating modes to balance clarity and performance. This design marks a substantial advance over HKC’s own previously detailed 1,080Hz monitor, which was rated for 1,080Hz at 720p and 540Hz at 1440p.
Scaling Trade-Offs and Remaining Unknowns
While competitive esports hardware has steadily pushed past 360Hz and 500Hz milestones, four-digit refresh rates were long considered an engineering fantasy due to the immense bandwidth required to deliver 1,300 frames per second. HKC’s triple-mode approach is intended to manage these scaling challenges, though exact resolution targets for each mode have not yet been made public.

As the unit remains in prototype form, no pricing or release timeline has been disclosed.
