Retroid has announced a hardware refresh for two of its recent handheld gaming devices, the Pocket 5 and Pocket Flip 2, shifting both models to a higher memory configuration while phasing out an earlier variant.

A new standard memory tier

Beginning July 15, both the Pocket 5 and Pocket Flip 2 will be sold exclusively with 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The previously available 8 GB RAM configurations have sold through, and the company confirmed those versions are now discontinued. Retroid stated that all outstanding orders for either device will be automatically upgraded to the 12 GB models at no additional cost, including any order placed prior to the July 15 transition date.

Pricing adjustments across the line

With the memory upgrade comes a modest price increase. The Retroid Pocket 5 will move from $199 to $209. The Pocket Flip 2 will see two separate adjustments: the Snapdragon 865 edition rises from $209 to $219, while the Dimensity 1100 variant increases from $179 to $189. These updated prices take effect on July 15 alongside the new configuration.

Broader strategy and recent shifts

The move is the latest in a series of running changes for Retroid’s handheld catalog. Earlier this year, the company discontinued the Pocket G2 only months after its debut, but subsequently introduced Pocket 5 color options originally created for the G2. In a separate adjustment, Retroid previously withdrew the 12 GB RAM edition of the Pocket 6, then reintroduced it last month with 128 GB of storage rather than the original 256 GB specification. The uniform 12 GB configuration for the Pocket 5 and Pocket Flip 2 reflects an effort to streamline production while responding to the discontinuation of lower-tier memory stock.
