Ayaneo has formally announced the name of its next retro handheld, confirming earlier speculation that the device would draw inspiration from a beloved Nintendo portable. The company revealed on its social media channels that the upcoming model will be called the Konkr Pocket Advance.

A Tribute to a Handheld Classic

In its announcement, Ayaneo described the Konkr Pocket Advance as “paying tribute to a true icon,” indicating that the device reimagines the Nintendo Game Boy Advance with what the company calls a “playful style.” The post did not include a first look at the hardware itself, but the accompanying teaser image disclosed a broader strategic shift for the brand.

According to that teaser, the Konkr Pocket Advance is the debut entry in an entirely new series under Ayaneo’s Konkr sub-brand. This structuring suggests a family of devices modelled after other historically significant handhelds, leaving the door open for future remakes of form factors such as the clamshell Game Boy Advance SP.

Expanding the Konkr Lineup

The new series may also incorporate the previously announced Konkr Pocket Block, a device already confirmed to be inspired by the vertical silhouette of the original Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, and Game Boy Color. That model was officially unveiled in May, though Ayaneo has yet to disclose any specifications, pricing, or a release window.

Ayaneo has similarly withheld performance details and launch timing for the Konkr Pocket Advance. Based on the company’s recent approach with the Pocket Micro 2, information is expected to be shared gradually through a staggered reveal campaign, keeping audiences engaged as the release approaches. The retro handheld market has grown increasingly competitive, with manufacturers regularly mining nostalgia for classic Nintendo designs while outfitting them with modern displays and emulation capabilities.
