Pixel 11a Specifications Surface Months Ahead of Expected Launch

Specifications for Google’s upcoming budget-oriented Pixel 11a have emerged through a leak, offering an early glimpse at the device while the flagship Pixel 11 series is still on the horizon. The handset, reportedly identified by the internal codename “Formosan,” is poised to introduce several hardware shifts over its predecessor.

Processor and Connectivity Upgrades

At the core of the device, Google’s Tensor G6 chip (codenamed “Malibu”) is listed alongside the Titan M3 security processor. This would mark a significant generational step, considering the current Pixel 10a continued to use the older Tensor G4 rather than adopting the Tensor G5. Graphics are expected to be handled by a PowerVR C-Series GPU carrying the designation CXTP-48-1536, a component previously tied to the Tensor G6 platform. For connectivity, the leak points to a MediaTek M90 modem, matching reports for the broader Pixel 11 series and maintaining the modem parity established with the Pixel 10a.

Display, Memory, and Color Variants

The phone is said to feature 8 GB of RAM and a 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 1,080 × 2,424 pixels. The panel will reportedly support a 60–120 Hz refresh rate, with HDR brightness listed at up to 2,250 nits and peak brightness reaching 3,350 nits.

The leak documents three SKU variants:

  • GQ05X for global markets
  • GP1BL for Japan
  • G4XQ2 for North America

Four color options are named: Obsidian (black), Olive (green), Frost (purple), and Fog (silver).

Battery Capacity and Camera Adjustments

One listed change concerns battery specifications. The minimum capacity is cited as 4,870 mAh, a slight decrease from the Pixel 10a’s minimum of 5,000 mAh (rated at 5,100 mAh). On the imaging side, the document references a new front-facing camera sensor under the codename “dokkaebi,” though detailed sensor data was not included.

The source further indicates that Google has enhanced Face Unlock across the entire Pixel 11 family, describing improvements in speed, security, and low-light performance. In a forward-looking note, the same origin mentioned “marmoset” as an early internal codename for the eventual Pixel 12a.
