Rumors of a Smaller Surface Pro Emerge
A few months ago, rumors had suggested that Microsoft was planing to introduce a new smaller Surface Pro powered by Intel processors. At the same time, Windows Central alleged that the smaller Surface Laptop would be recieving an equivalent refresh.
Only the Laptop Refreshed So Far
Currently, only the latter has come to pass featuring Intel Panther Lake processors. By contrast, the Surface Pro 12-inch remains a Snapdragon X series affair. Previously, the 2-in-1 started with 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Priced at $1,049, this configuration also features a Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 processor and a 38 Wh battery that fared well during our review.
Price Drop to $849 With Core Features
Now, Microsoft has dropped the devices price to $849 while retaining many of its core features. For instance, the new release maintains a Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 processor and a 90 Hz display with almost 500 nits peak brightness in our tests. Likewise, the updated 2-in-1 still ships with 256 GB of non-upgradeable storage.
RAM Reduction Removes Copilot+ Certification
Unfortunately, this $200 saving comes at the cost of 8 GB of RAM rather than 16 GB. As a result, the new Surface Pro 12-inch is not a Copilot+ certified PC. Please see Microsoft's store listing and our initial review for more details about the company's smaller 2-in-1.
