HMD has not abandoned its modular Fusion smartphone series, despite earlier indications to the contrary. The same source that previously reported the line’s discontinuation now states that a next-generation model remains in active development, though that earlier claim was explicitly unconfirmed at the time.

Development Status and Design Rumors

Citing a friend who is described as an industry insider, the X account smashx_60 reports that the next HMD Fusion handset has not been canceled. According to the post, the project is still in the development phase and its design has yet to be finalized. The account further warned that any images or specification sheets currently being shared online are not authentic.

Broader Product Roadmap Clarified

In a separate update, smashx_60 also addressed the status of several other HMD devices, with details reportedly confirmed by inside sources. The posts state that a model referred to as the HMD Skyline 2 GT does not exist, and the upcoming HMD Skyline 2 will not feature a redesigned, circular camera module, contradicting some circulating speculation.

The rugged smartphone segment remains a priority. The successor to the HMD XR21, which retailed for $439.99, is expected to debut as the HMD XR22 and is also under development. The original XR21 launched in 2024 as a rebadged version of the Nokia XR21 that had first arrived a year earlier, making an update overdue by the company’s recent release cadence.

Current Focus and Launch Timing

No timeline has been provided for when these devices will reach the market. In recent months, the Finnish company has directed considerable attention toward the feature phone segment, introducing new models that incorporate AI features within its Nokia 2xx series.
