Creality Unveils the Pika: A Pocket-Sized 3D Scanner with Standalone Capture and a Built-In Display

Creality has expanded its 3D scanning lineup with the introduction of the Pika, a remarkably compact device that follows in the footsteps of the larger Sermoon S1, X1, and the all-in-one P1. While it dials back some of the raw performance found in its professional-grade siblings, the Pika differentiates itself through extreme portability and a rare feature in its class: an onboard display for standalone operation.

Compact Hardware and Dual Scanning Modes

The scanner’s chassis measures just 100x60x35mm and tips the scales at a mere 260 grams, making it one of the more travel-friendly options on the market. Internally, Creality has equipped the Pika with two distinct optical systems: a parallel blue laser array utilizing seven laser lines, and a Near-Infrared (NIR) structured light mode. The blue laser mode achieves an accuracy of up to 0.03 mm, while the NIR mode offers a precision ceiling of 0.1 mm. A 3-inch HD touchscreen rated at 500 nits of peak brightness provides a live feed and scan control interface directly on the unit. It is important to note, however, that the device cannot post-process data autonomously; final fusion and meshing must be completed on an external system.

Connectivity and Unique Processing Capabilities

To handle the heavy lifting of mesh generation, users connect the Pika to a companion device via Wi-Fi 6 or a wired PC link. Creality states that an unspecified 8-core CPU running at 2.0 GHz powers the onboard capture processing. The connection method dictates the scanning frame rate: a wired PC connection unlocks a fluid 110 frames per second, while mobile device pairing caps the experience at 30 FPS. An intriguing technical distinction emerges when the Pika is tethered directly to a computer—it gains the ability to perform marker-free blue laser scanning, a capability absent even in the company’s more expensive P1 or S1 models.

Power Design, Pricing, and Availability

Dual hot-swappable battery support addresses the demands of mobile scanning. One 3,350 mAh battery is integrated, and a second unit is included in the box. Both can be recharged externally via a USB-C port, enabling continuous operation without tethering the scanner itself to a power supply.

Creality is currently offering the Pika at an early bird pre-order price of $629, marking a $70 reduction from its standard manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $699. The early bird window is scheduled to close on August 12, with initial pre-order shipments commencing on August 5.
