A potential glimpse of Oppo’s upcoming ColorOS 17 interface may have surfaced months ahead of its official debut, hidden within the latest public build of ColorOS 16. A user has identified what appear to be early design elements already present on a OnePlus Ace 5.
Early traces found in Shelf component
According to X user LuminanceXS, interface fragments tied to ColorOS 17 are detectable inside ColorOS version 16.0.8 when examining the Shelf feature. While the smartphone otherwise runs the current-generation overlay, the Shelf component is reportedly built with a version number marked "17," suggesting an internal preview has been packaged into the stable release. After initially referencing the discovery as ColorOS 16.1, LuminanceXS later confirmed the 16.0.8 build number directly.
The find arrives during a period of contradictory speculation about the visual direction of Oppo’s next major Android skin.
Competing claims about visual style
Tipster Digital Chat Station previously asserted that ColorOS 17 would introduce a so-called “liquid acrylic” interpretation of Apple’s Liquid Glass aesthetic — a restrained, semi-transparent effect engineered to balance visual flair with battery efficiency and screen readability. Those claims were swiftly challenged when a ColorOS team manager responded to user questions on Weibo, denying that a Liquid Glass overhaul was part of the update.
What the leaked screenshots show
Screenshots shared alongside the findings display redesigned context menus, confirmation dialogs, a toggle for ‘Recommended services,’ and an ‘About Shelf’ information panel. The common thread across all elements is a flat composition dominated by soft rounded corners and blurred backgrounds. What the images lack is the pronounced translucency of a full glass-like effect. This muted treatment aligns with the “liquid acrylic” characterization — lighter refraction rather than deep transparency — and does not directly conflict with the official denial of a more dramatic glass redesign.
ColorOS 17 is anticipated to launch later this year alongside the Find X10 series, running on top of Android 17.
