Ayaneo has outlined its product roadmap for the remainder of the year, confirming two new handhelds are in development following last week’s unveiling of the Pocket Micro 2. One device will run Windows, while the second will carry Konkr branding and is being described by the company as a “reimagining” of a classic portable console.
A Familiar Silhouette Surfaces
The manufacturer has a track record of revisiting retro form factors. Its Pocket DMG offered a contemporary interpretation of the Nintendo Game Boy, and the Pocket Micro series similarly modernized the Game Boy Micro. A new teaser image posted to Ayaneo’s social channels now points to the inspiration behind the forthcoming Konkr handheld. The outline of the device’s top edge, when overlaid with a Game Boy Advance from 2001, aligns precisely, strongly suggesting the original horizontal GBA design serves as its foundation.
Modern Internals in a Classic Shape
Details on specifications remain unannounced, but expectations point to a larger, higher-resolution display preserving a 3:2 aspect ratio. A significantly more capable processor, updated controls, a bigger battery, and broad emulation support for Game Boy Advance titles and other retro platforms are all anticipated. The company may also offer the handheld in several of the original Game Boy Advance colorways, including Indigo, Black, and Orange, though finishes have not yet been confirmed.
Launch Timing and a Second Konkr Device
No announcement date has been set, and additional information is likely to emerge closer to launch. Alongside this horizontal model, Ayaneo is also preparing a vertical handheld that will be released as the Konkr Pocket Block. It is unclear whether both Konkr devices will debut simultaneously. Following the notably constrained availability of the Pocket Micro 2, prospective buyers will be watching to see if Ayaneo can supply larger initial quantities this time around.
