According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, Apple has also tested a different case meant just for the iPhone 17 Air. This case is designed to protect the frame but leaves the back exposed. It’s still unclear if this case will actually be available for sale.

Many buyers of the iPhone 4 were given this bumper for free after it was found that the antennas in the frame could be hindered by the user’s hand without any case. Durability and Limitations
With the whole frame being covered, there’s a lower chance that the screen or back will shatter if dropped. However, it’s worth noting that the bumper does not shield the back from scratches.
