Apple M4 Pro: Thunderbolt 5, 14-Core GPU, 20-Core CPU

Apple has quietly introduced a new chip with the release of the 2024 Mac Mini. As Mark Gurman had anticipated, the Mac Mini comes in two versions: the Apple M4 and the Apple M4 Pro. Currently, there’s limited information available, mainly found on Apple's Mac Mini website.

Details on the Apple M4 Pro

The Apple M4 Pro comes in two configurations: one featuring a 12-core CPU and a 16-core GPU, while the other includes a 14-core CPU and a 20-core GPU. The first version has 8 Performance cores and 8 Efficiency cores. However, the core count for the second version hasn't been disclosed, though an 8+8 setup seems probable.

Improvements in Performance

The Apple M4 brings significant enhancements, such as support for up to 64 GB of unified memory, compared to the 32 GB limit on the standard M4. Furthermore, the total memory bandwidth has more than doubled, reaching 273 GB/s from 120 GB/s.

Display and Connectivity Features

Moreover, the GPU of the Apple M4 Pro can drive up to three 6K displays at 60 Hz or a combination of one 6K display with an 8K 60/4K 240 Hz display. Additionally, it's among the first Apple chips to support the newly introduced Thunderbolt 5.0 standard.

While crucial details regarding the base and boost clock speeds of the Apple M4 Pro's CPU are still unavailable, it shouldn't be long before this information appears in benchmarking sites like Geekbench.
