Analogue 3D Gameplay Video Without N64 ROM Support

Almost two years have gone by since Analogue first revealed what we called a ‘4K reimagining of the Nintendo 64’. The path to market for this device has been anything but smooth, with many problems causing the console’s release to continue getting pushed back.

Delays and Pre-orders

Just last month, Analogue announced that initial shipments would be postponed until Q4 2025, even after accepting $249.99 for each pre-order that was made in October 2024. As we mentioned during the most recent delay of the 3D, Analogue had never presented a functioning unit. That has changed, however, due to a brief video included in the first Analogue 3D press kit.

Prototype Reveal

In the video above, you can see the Analogue 3D connected to a modern television, with 1080° Snowboarding loaded into its cartridge slot. Sadly, the clip, which lasts 32 seconds, only shows the game reaching the title screen. While we have finally witnessed a prototype unit in action, Analogue has chosen not to display any gameplay footage just yet.

Compatibility Issues

Nonetheless, Analogue states that the 3D offers 100% cartridge compatibility. There is an important detail at the bottom of Analogue’s ‘Introducing Analogue 3D’ announcement. It turns out that the console does not support openFPGA, unlike the Analogue Pocket, which is currently priced at $320 on Amazon. This means that users won’t be able to play N64 games using ROM files.
