Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro & Redmi K80 Ultra to Feature Ultrasonic Sensor

Xiaomi is possibly introducing a more advanced security system in two of its forthcoming budget flagship smartphones. They may include a fingerprint sensor technology usually found in high-end devices. Here’s what we know up till now.

Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro & Redmi K80 Ultra Details

New information comes from the well-known tipster Smart Pikachu (Via TechOutlook). According to a post on Weibo, the Redmi K80 Ultra and the Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro will feature an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor positioned beneath the display. It seems that the Chinese tech company is currently experimenting with this sensor for the Civi 5 Pro and K80 Ultra models. This means you’ll have an improved sensor for fingerprint security compared to their predecessors, the Civi 4 and K70 series.

Advantages of Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanners

In October, we discussed several reasons why ultrasonic fingerprint scanners are superior for smartphone security. Unlike optical scanners that provide 2D mapping, these sensors can generate 3D images of your fingerprints. They are also quicker and can read fingerprints even when fingers are wet, oily, or dirty. Recently, numerous smartphones outside the ultra-premium market have begun to adopt this technology, making it less surprising that the Civi 5 Pro and K80 Ultra might also come equipped with this feature.

Sales Success and Future Expectations

The Redmi K80 series has already set records by selling over 1 million units in just ten days. We’ve also recently unboxed the new Redmi K80 and K80 Pro models. Both of these were launched in China a few weeks ago and achieved impressive sales on their first day. However, details about Xiaomi's new Civi lineup and the K80 Ultra model are still awaited. There are speculations that the next-gen Civi 5 series will be powered by the Dimensity 9400, a processor of flagship quality. This is all the information we have for now, so stay tuned for more updates.
