New Microsoft Surface Laptop: 5G and Powerful Processors Available

Microsoft has updated the Surface Laptop lineup with new processors just three months after initial details were leaked online. These new chips come from Intel’s Lunar Lake family and are featured in the latest models of Microsoft’s 13.8-inch and 15-inch laptops.

    Battery Life Expectations

The Surface Laptop 11th Intel series is claimed to deliver up to 22 hours of playback for locally stored videos and around 14 hours of web browsing. Microsoft has yet to disclose the battery specifications for the new models, but a similar Zenbook S14 achieved comparable runtimes during testing with a 72 Wh battery.

    Performance Comparison

In comparison, the Surface Laptop 7 13 equipped with a Snapdragon X Elite (X1E-80-100) showed slightly lower battery performance in the same assessments, although it has a battery that’s 25% smaller. This suggests that while the new Surface Laptops from Microsoft are expected to provide impressive battery life, they may not reach the official claims.

    Features and Availability

In addition, the latest Surface Laptops come with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and models will also be equipped with 5G modems later this year. Furthermore, the 13.8-inch and 15-inch variants incorporate design updates that Microsoft revealed last year with its ARM-based models. The Surface Laptop 11th Intel starts at a price of $1,499.99 and will begin shipping on February 18.

  • Microsoft Teases Release Dates for Surface Laptop 8 and Pro 12

Microsoft Teases Release Dates for Surface Laptop 8 and Pro 12

It looks like Microsoft is planning to unveil more Surface products than usual this year. According to Windows Central, last week it was reported that the company intends to launch smaller versions of the Surface Laptop and Surface Pro, likely as updates to the Surface Laptop Go and Surface Go.

    Upcoming Devices

These new devices are expected to be released ‘in the coming weeks’ and will likely feature Snapdragon X and Snapdragon X Plus series chipsets. Additionally, a new lineup of x86-powered Surface products seems to be on the horizon. Microsoft has scheduled a launch event for January 30, between 15:00 and 16:00 UTC, although the specific details of what will be announced remain a mystery. However, the Surface division has confirmed that a ‘major announcement’ is on the way concerning its ‘for Business’ segment.

    Previous Launches

Last year, a similar event saw the introduction of the Surface Laptop 6 for Business and the Surface Pro 10 for Business, which were based on Intel’s Meteor Lake architecture. In contrast, Microsoft waited until June to reveal the ARM-based Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 (currently priced at $989.99 on Amazon); it’s believed that successors based on Snapdragon X2 will debut ‘later this year’.

    New Features

Meanwhile, the upcoming Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12 are likely to feature Core Ultra 5 226V, Core Ultra 7 266V, and Core Ultra 7 268V processors along with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. These new ‘for Business’ versions are also set to showcase design updates that Microsoft introduced with last year’s consumer models, like thinner display bezels on the Surface Laptop series. It’s important to note that while these devices will be marketed primarily to business customers, regular consumers can still buy them through the company’s online store.

  • Cheaper Microsoft Surface Pro and Compact Laptop with Snapdragon X Plus Soon

Cheaper Microsoft Surface Pro and Compact Laptop with Snapdragon X Plus Soon

At this time, the Microsoft Surface Pro (priced at $799 on Amazon) is only available with a 13-inch screen. In contrast, the Surface Laptop comes in both 13.8-inch and 15-inch options. Recent reports from Windows Central suggest that Microsoft is working on smaller versions of both products, which are set to be released shortly.

    Upcoming Launch Details

Although the precise release date is still unclear, it is anticipated that these devices will be officially announced in the coming weeks. The new Surface Pro is likely to directly compete with the smaller 11-inch iPad Pro. This Windows tablet will almost definitely come with a keyboard cover that includes a touchpad, and it will sport a display size between 11 and 12 inches. Conversely, the new Surface Laptop is expected to be the next version of the Surface Laptop Go, which currently has a 12.4-inch screen, but the exact size for the new model is still uncertain.

    Performance Expectations

Microsoft might equip both new tablets with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X or Snapdragon X Plus, allowing these mini Surfaces to deliver good performance and fairly long battery life, with prices starting around $800. Additionally, Microsoft is reportedly developing new versions of the Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11, which will use Intel’s Lunar Lake chips rather than the Snapdragon X Elite. However, it’s important to note that these models are mainly targeted at business users and are generally not available to everyday consumers.
