AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Specs and January 23 Launch Details Leaked
AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 RDNA 4 GPU release has been quite strange, filled with mystery. While the new architecture and GPUs were acknowledged at CES 2025, not much was disclosed about their specs or performance. Since that event, a wave of leaks and speculations has emerged, hinting at what we might see from these new GPUs.
Retail Listings Leak Details
Recently, a leak from Danish retailer Foniks revealed that the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and 9070 XT GPUs have been listed on their site ahead of time. Sadly, the listings do not provide extensive details, but they do confirm the VRAM amounts for the RX 9070 and 9070 XT, along with a possible launch date for retail.
Expected Launch and Pricing
Earlier leaks suggested that the RDNA 4 GPUs would officially launch on January 15; however, it now appears that they will actually be available for purchase starting January 23. Pricing is still not officially verified, but the converted prices listed by Foniks suggest the GPUs could cost over $1,000 (with the RX 9070 priced at $1,048 and the XT variant at $1,282).
Specifications Breakdown
Furthermore, the Foniks listing has confirmed earlier speculations that both the RX 9070 and 9070 XT will come equipped with 16 GB of GDDR6 VRAM. This information is also supported by another retail leak from Geizhals, which offers more in-depth specifications.
According to the German retailer, the Gigabyte Aorus AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Elite that was listed too early will feature a 256-bit memory bus, 64 compute units (which equals 4,096 stream processors), 256 TMUs, 96 ROPs, and 64 RT cores. This is somewhat less than the existing AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT (currently priced at $719.99 at Best Buy), which boasts 5,376 stream processors, 84 RT cores, and 84 compute units.
Spec Comparisons and Confirmation
It’s important to remember that raw specs are not always comparable between different GPU generations, and some of the information from Geizhals might just be placeholder text. However, a lot of what is listed has already been confirmed, such as the RDNA 4 architecture and the 16 GB of VRAM, making it seem less likely that the information is inaccurate. Similar to Foniks, Geizhals also indicates that the RX 9070 series will be available for retail on January 24.

AMD Unveils RDNA 4, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and FSR 4 at CES 2025
While Nvidia is set to showcase its Blackwell gaming powerhouse later today, AMD is kicking off CES 2025 with a wave of fresh announcements regarding its new RDNA 4 architecture. Although we still need to delve into the complex specifics of the architecture, we’re finally getting a glimpse of what AMD has in store for gamers this year.
AMD’s RDNA 4 Unveiling
AMD is at long last revealing RDNA 4. This fresh architecture is built on a TSMC 4 nm process and features 2nd generation AI accelerators, 3rd generation ray tracing units, and what seems to be enhanced media encoding capabilities.
The improvements in media encoding are particularly noteworthy, as AMD’s AMF encoder has not typically kept up with Nvidia’s NVENC and Intel QuickSync. Moreover, broadcasting tools like OBS still lack proper support for AMF. It’s hoped that with RDNA 4, this will finally change.
New Features and Technologies
In addition, there’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4) on the horizon, which now utilizes the new AI accelerators in RDNA 4 cards and machine learning (ML) to enhance upscaling.
This might bring significant advancements over FSR 3, which was mainly just about upscaling mathematics, with ML features only utilized for fluid motion frames (FMF) generation.
AI is seeping into Radeon Adrenalin too with Adrenalin AI. This new feature allows users to create images, request document summaries, and receive support information.

AMD RX 9070 XT GPU Design Preview Before CES 2025 Launch
AMD is set to unveil its Radeon RX 9070 XT GPU at CES 2025, marking yet another change in naming conventions as it rolls out its RDNA 4 architecture along with the new GPUs. Just a few days before this anticipated announcement, PowerColor has given us a sneak peek of what its next-gen flagship AMD GPU design might look like, and it’s a significant departure from previous models.
Teasers and Design Elements
PowerColor has released a couple of teasers so far that showcase both the GPU cooler shroud and what seems to be a flow-through window on the backplate of what is believed to be their version of the RX 9070 XT GPU. In one teaser, the shroud design displays what appears to be a gem-like end cap with RGB lighting shining through a metal fan shroud that houses a triple-fan cooling system.
Flow-Through Cooler Speculations
The other image shared by PowerColor is less captivating visually, but it suggests a flow-through cooler design, resembling the approach Nvidia has taken with its Founders Edition coolers for some time now. Nevertheless, it could just be a decorative element on the backplate, as PowerColor typically does not incorporate flow-through coolers in its Red Devil graphics cards. This design seems to be an advancement of the current Red Devil RX 7900 XTX Limited Edition, which PowerColor already sells.
Cooling Efficiency Considerations
The arrangement of the heat sink fins implies that a flow-through cooler might be unlikely, as these designs generally use horizontally aligned fins instead of vertical ones for better airflow through the fins. No matter the case, we won’t have to wait long to discover what PowerColor and AMD are planning, with the launch expected to happen at CES 2025.

PowerColor to Launch Radeon RX 8000 Reaper GPUs Next Month
PowerColor is said to be working on a new range of GPUs called “Reaper,” intended for AMD’s forthcoming Radeon RX 8000 series, as reported by VideoCardz. This new series aims to cater to the budget and mainstream markets, complementing PowerColor’s current products instead of replacing them.
PowerColor’s Experience
PowerColor has been one of AMD’s most committed AIB partners for more than ten years, manufacturing Radeon GPUs. The company has a variety of product lines, including the high-end Liquid Devil and Red Devil, the mid-range Hellhound and Red Dragon, and the budget-friendly Fighter series. Interestingly, PowerColor did not produce a Red Dragon option for the Radeon RX 7000 series, but it is expected to return with the RX 8000 GPUs scheduled for January.
Mainstream Focus
The Reaper lineup looks to be targeting regular users, with the initial models likely to feature the RX 8800 and RX 8600, plus their XT versions, resulting in four total SKUs. AMD RDNA 4 Release Date Leak: January Launch for RX 8000 GPU
AMD’s CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, has announced that the company plans to unveil the “first” of its next-generation RDNA 4 GPUs “in early 2025.” The details are somewhat unclear, with no specific announcement or release date provided for the RDNA 4 GPUs. However, leaks from Chinese forums suggest that AMD aims to showcase several products during CES 2025, including the RX 8000 RDNA 4 graphics cards.
Confirmations and Speculations
Adding to the previous information, known leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead has confirmed that an announcement for RDNA 4 is indeed on the horizon, along with a potential release for at least one of the RX 8000 series GPUs. According to MLID, AMD is set to fully unveil RDNA 4 during CES 2025, and at least one RX 8000 series GPU is expected to be made available for purchase before January 2025 ends. While MLID does not disclose further specifics about which RX 8000 model will launch in January, we can make some educated guesses.
Possible Releases and Competition
Initially, AMD might introduce the RX 8800 XT, or whatever the top RDNA 4 Navi 48 card is named, before progressing to lower-tier models. This approach mirrors the release strategy seen with the RDNA 3-based RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT cards in December 2022. Following this, mid-range and entry-level GPUs such as the RX 7800 XT and RX 7600 will likely be released later.
