  • OnePlus 15: High-End Model Features Hidden RAM Speed Boost

OnePlus 15: High-End Model Features Hidden RAM Speed Boost

    Key Takeaways

    1. The OnePlus 15 is available in two RAM options: 12GB with LPDDR5X Ultra memory and 16GB with LPDDR5X Ultra+ memory.
    2. The 12GB RAM version has a data transfer rate of up to 9,600Mbps, while the 16GB version can reach speeds of up to 10,667Mbps.
    3. The “Ultra” and “Ultra+” labels are part of OnePlus’s marketing to highlight speed enhancements, not official industry terms.
    4. The OnePlus 15’s memory speeds represent a significant upgrade from the OnePlus 13, which had LPDDR5X limited to 8,533Mbps.
    5. Future mobile memory advancements are expected with LPDDR6, focusing on power efficiency and potential speeds of 14,400Mbps.

The OnePlus 15 has recently made its debut worldwide, turning heads with its impressive battery and high-end features. A recent battery endurance test has shed light on how long the device lasts. Yet, a noteworthy aspect about the phone’s memory might have been missed: the OnePlus 15 comes in both 12GB and 16GB RAM versions, but the RAM speed differs between these two options.

    Unveiling Memory Distinctions

OnePlus has hinted at this variation in their official specifications. The model with 12GB RAM utilizes what they term LPDDR5X Ultra memory, while the 16GB variant is equipped with LPDDR5X Ultra+ (Plus). But what does that “Ultra+” label really mean in terms of performance?

    Speed Differences

The key difference lies in the speed. The OnePlus 15 with 12GB RAM provides a data transfer rate of up to 9,600Mbps. On the other hand, the 16GB version delivers a notable increase in speed, capable of achieving up to 10,667Mbps. To put this into perspective, this new memory generation marks a significant upgrade from the previous OnePlus 13 model, which had its LPDDR5X limited to 8,533Mbps.

Both variants are still classified as LPDDR5X technically. The terms “Ultra” and “Ultra+” are simply part of OnePlus’s marketing approach to showcase enhanced speeds from different generations of Samsung RAM chips. In the past, Vivo has also used the Ultra+ term for similar speed enhancements in products like the Vivo X300 Pro Satellite Communication Edition. Memory manufacturers such as Samsung do not employ these labels, opting instead to market them as upgraded versions of LPDDR5X.

    Future Memory Developments

Even though the 16GB model maximizes LPDDR5X technology, the next significant advancement in mobile memory is set to be the LPDDR6 standard. The initial LPDDR6 modules will begin at the same 10,667Mbps speed, but the real improvement will focus on power efficiency, potentially reducing power consumption by up to 21% compared to LPDDR5X. Additionally, LPDDR6 could achieve incredible speeds of 14,400Mbps in the future, paving the way for the next generation of flagship performance.

The OnePlus 15 has made its debut on the worldwide stage this month, following its launch in China in October, showcasing a remarkable 7,300mAh battery. For those who are used to smaller batteries, this large capacity raises an intriguing question: how long can it really last? A recent battery test sheds light on the OnePlus 15’s performance in real-life scenarios.

    Testing the Battery Life

The YouTube channel “Lover Of Tech” took the OnePlus 15 for a thorough evaluation. This is the same channel that recently assessed the battery powerhouse Oppo Find X9 Pro using a similar testing approach. In this instance, they set the new OnePlus flagship against the previously mentioned Oppo Find X9 Pro and the well-known iPhone 17 Pro Max. Importantly, unlike the European variant of the Vivo X300 series, the OnePlus 15 keeps its hefty 7,300mAh battery across the globe, making the test outcomes applicable for all regional models, just like OPPO’s latest high-end flagship.

    The Rigorous Testing Process

The test consisted of a rigorous series of tasks, each lasting an hour until just one phone was left standing. This challenge featured demanding activities such as recording video in 4K/60fps, extensive use of social media platforms (like X Spaces, TikTok, and Instagram Reels), nonstop video and music streaming (through YouTube), and gaming with popular titles such as Subway Surfers and Asphalt. The final tasks included a WhatsApp video call and live streaming on TikTok, then the cycle began anew.

    Impressive Results

The findings showcased the OnePlus 15’s remarkable endurance. It lasted an astonishing 9 hours, 39 minutes, and 28 seconds under these rigorous conditions. This easily equates to a full day or even more of regular usage for the average user.

However, the Oppo Find X9 Pro, with its slightly larger 7,500mAh battery, held onto its top position in the endurance rankings by clocking in at 11 hours of screen time. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, a device often commended for its dependable battery life, achieved 7 hours, 37 minutes, and 42 seconds during the same evaluation. The OnePlus 15 has already undergone all required testing at FCC-acknowledged labs, and the certification application has been officially submitted.

For those who are keen on buying the OnePlus 15 in the U.S., they should check out OnePlus.com/us, provide their contact details, and they will be informed when the device is available for purchase. The OnePlus 15 will be ready for pre-order in Canada starting November 13, as planned, on OnePlus.com/ca_en.
