After five months since its announcement, the controller is finally ready for purchase.

    You can now find the Legion Go Charging Controller on Amazon for $49.99. It includes a built-in 2,850mAh battery and pogo pins to keep the attached controllers charging when they’re connected. There’s a USB-C port on the top for recharging the connector, and Lenovo states that using a 45W adapter will fully charge it in just 2 hours.

    Safety and Design

    The Legion Go Charging Connector comes with several safety features, including protections against over-voltage, over-temperature, and over-current. It is available in Shadow Black and includes a USB-A to USB-C cable. According to the product description, this accessory is specifically designed for the Legion Go.

    Additional Accessories

    At CES 2025, Lenovo also unveiled more accessories for the Legion Go, such as the Legion Sling Bag, which has dedicated compartments for the Legion Go and its accessories. This sling bag is an improvement over the original carrying case that only fits the device itself. It will be available in April for $34.99.

    Among the highlights of this new build — Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.3000 (KB5050103) — is the addition of colored icons. Currently, the battery icon on Windows 11 systems, including gaming handhelds like the Lenovo Legion Go (currently priced at $549.99 on Amazon), appears in either black or white, depending on the light or dark theme selection. The latest update will allow the battery icon to show in three colors: black, yellow, or green based on its condition.

    Understanding the Color Codes

    When the icon turns green, Microsoft indicates that the PC is charging and functioning well. A yellow icon signifies that the device is in energy-saving mode, while a red battery icon means the battery is running critically low and should be plugged in without delay.

    Microsoft has mentioned that these new colored battery icons will be visible not only on the taskbar in the system tray but also in the Quick Settings menu and in the Settings app. They plan to roll out the icons for the lock screen in future updates.

    Additional Updates and Features

    Apart from the colored battery icons, this build introduces support for displaying battery percentage directly on the taskbar. Users can enable this feature through Settings. Once turned on, the battery percentage will show up right next to the battery icon. This addition is particularly beneficial since users previously had to hover over the icon or click it to see the battery percentage in the Quick Settings.

    Another minor tweak is the repositioning of the lightning bolt icon that appears when the PC is connected to a power source. In the images released by Microsoft, this lightning symbol is now centered on the battery icon, rather than being on the left side.

    Microsoft notes that these new features are being rolled out slowly to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel, meaning that not everyone will have access to it right away. This gradual rollout allows the company to gather user feedback before wider distribution.

    “If the Joy-Con is meant to act as a mouse, it would require rubber feet to slide properly. They don’t appear to be those in the picture to me, but the ring at the top of the rail and the oval at the bottom might actually be rubber feet,” LiC noted. He went on to mention that “the product itself is just a sheet of adhesive tape, which explains the size, but the ‘model’ name is definitely significant. And while the descriptions are often misleading when distinguishing between a console, controller, or accessory, ‘game console handles’ is a term often used for parts tied to the Joy-Cons.”

    Upcoming Console Details

    The next-generation Nintendo Switch is anticipated to launch by March 2025, featuring an 8-inch LCD display, which is a notable upgrade from the original 6.2-inch screen. The system memory is also expected to increase significantly, going from 4 GB to 12 GB. Backward compatibility seems likely, along with the capability to sync with the current Nintendo Switch Online library.

    The controllers are expected to include magnetic attachments and the previously mentioned computer mouse-like functionality. It remains uncertain whether these controllers will have a price that aligns with the existing Joy-Cons, currently available on Amazon for $79.99, and that includes free shipping.

However, with the upcoming launch of Warframe 1999, the team has adopted a more reserved approach, finally announcing a definitive release date for this Cyberpunk-inspired expansion. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Soulframe.

    Launch Date and Content

    In the recent Warframe Devstream (check the video below or skim through the highlights), it was confirmed that Warframe 1999 is set to launch in December 2024. This expansion will present a wealth of new content for the live-service PvE looter. So far, Digital Extremes has revealed that Warframe 1999 will feature the following new content:

    The new realm, Höllvania, will stick to the familiar tile-based procedural generation style that many of Warframe’s regions use. This marks a shift from the more recent updates that have focused on broadening open-world adventures and survival gameplay. That said, the new tileset promises to include various seasons, each offering distinct experiences. This hints at the possibility of different enemy types, buffs, effects, or even loot drops varying with the seasons, although Digital Extremes is being intentionally vague about the details of the new tileset.

    Soulframe’s Development Journey

    Similarly to Warframe 1999, Soulframe has been under development for a considerable time, though Digital Extremes has been quite transparent about the fact that a full release is still far off. Even though there’s a closed, live version of Soulframe already being tested by a select group of players, during a Soulframe Devstream (watch below), the team indicated that the fantasy RPG will probably only reach pre-alpha status sometime in 2025.

    Even though Digital Extremes initially planned to launch Soulframe in 2024, it seems likely that the game will debut in the first half of the year. However, the development team has not yet committed to a specific release timeline. Presently, the game is what they refer to as a "pre-pre-alpha."

    Inspirations from Warframe

    While Soulframe presents a stark contrast to Warframe, leaning more heavily on fantasy rather than sci-fi, the development team has mentioned during the stream that they will incorporate lessons learned from Warframe into Soulframe’s design. For example, Digital Extremes plans to utilize Warframe’s Focus Schools as a fundamental element for the Fighting Arts progression system in Soulframe. Observing the in-game visuals, including the particle effects, lighting, and character design and movement, it is clear that the influence of Warframe is significant.

Two of these are already known: the Legion Go, which is currently priced at $589 on Amazon and debuted in October 2023, and the recently leaked Legion Go Lite. The brochure also mentions a third device, the Lenovo Legion Go Gen Two handheld, which was previously hinted at during the Lenovo Innovate 24 event.

    Speculation on the Gen Two Handheld

The Ryzen 9 AI HX 370, a potential candidate for the Gen Two, has demonstrated impressive performance in Cinebench R23 benchmarks, achieving a peak of 23,786 points in multi-core tests and 354 points per watt in power efficiency. This chip competes well against other mobile processors like Apple’s M3 Max and Intel’s Core Ultra series, showcasing a balanced blend of performance and power efficiency—both essential for gaming on handheld devices.

    Caution on Credibility

    Ultimately, these insights are speculative, grounded in current industry trends and hardware leaks. Additionally, there is always the possibility that Lenovo made an error in the noted Dock Compatibility brochure, so it’s wise to approach this leak with caution.     Anyone who has played GTA Online knows that the game struggles with cheaters, and Rockstar Games is taking steps to tackle this issue by introducing BattleEye anti-cheat through a recent update for GTA V. While this news may be welcomed by many dedicated players, it has sparked controversy within the Steam Deck and Linux gaming communities. The implementation of kernel-level anti-cheat has rendered GTA Online incompatible with both Linux and the Steam Deck.

    Rockstar’s Stance on Compatibility Issues

    Interestingly, Rockstar’s support page regarding BattleEye cites the lack of Steam Deck support as a problem originating from Steam’s end:

    "Steam Deck does not support BattlEye for GTA Online. You will be able to play GTAV Story Mode but unable to play GTA Online."

    It seems odd for Rockstar to place the blame on Steam, especially since several titles successfully support BattleEye when played on Linux through Proton. A brief look at the Steam Deck Verified games list, Are We Anti-Cheat Yet?, and ProtonDB shows that games like DayZ, ARK: Survival Evolved, ArmA 3, Unturned, Planetside 3, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, and other BattleEye-enabled titles run smoothly on the Steam Deck and various Linux systems.

    Offline Play Still Available

    It’s worth mentioning that GTA V can still be played in offline or story mode on Linux and the Steam Deck by using the -nobattleye launch option. This allows players to start the game without BattleEye active in the background.

    This indicates that Rockstar Games may have intentionally chosen to overlook support for Linux and the Steam Deck. They might be trying to avoid a flood of support requests from Steam Deck users or Linux gamers regarding potential issues from future updates. The timing of the anti-cheat addition to GTA V and GTA Online raises eyebrows, especially since the game debuted nine years ago. Some speculate that this could serve as a test for GTA VI, which is expected to launch next year. While a PC version for GTA VI may not arrive until a year or two after its console release in 2025, Rockstar may be attempting to manage expectations for the new installment.

    Lenovo has indicated an upcoming release of a new Legion Go gaming controller. This information was discovered on the company’s official website. The upcoming device is expected to be relatively compact, featuring a 7-inch screen.

    Enhanced Legion Go Lineup

    The company’s Legion Go handheld has already proven to be a solid alternative to mainstream options, such as ASUS’s ROG Ally X. Lenovo has revealed plans to expand the Legion Go lineup, hinting at a more compact model.

    The newly updated description of the Legion Go handhelds now mentions that the devices will feature “a 7-inch or 8-inch display,” providing a compact yet immersive visual experience for gaming and multimedia content. This indicates that Lenovo is working on a “trimmed-down” version of the original model, which currently comes with an 8.8-inch display.

    New Features and Specifications

    Additionally, the description notes that the new device will include an HDMI port and a dual fan cooling system, features that are not present in the current model.

    Although detailed specifications for the new Legion Go handheld are not yet available, it is anticipated that Lenovo will offer the new model as a configuration of the existing product. Thus, the processor and other internals may not see an upgrade.

    The original Legion Go handheld is equipped with an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor with RDNA Graphics, paired with 16GB LPDDR5X RAM running at 7500Mhz.
