Xiaomi Fold 18 & Mix Fold 5: HyperOS Leak Confirms Ultra Rival

    Key Takeaway

    – Xiaomi’s upcoming foldable (possibly Mix Fold 5 or Xiaomi 18 Fold) has a more compact, wide-unfolded design.
    – A triple Leica camera and 200MP sensor are rumored, differentiating it from Samsung and Apple foldables.
    – A new Xring O3 chipset is anticipated, alongside integration with HyperOS.
    – No global launch is expected for the foldable, but the Xiaomi 18 Pro/Max may debut in Europe in 2026.
    – The device’s leaked UI images from HyperOS fit the Huawei Pura X Max display, hinting at shared design trends.

An image from a HyperOS leak was simply placed on the display of the Huawei Pura X Max, and as can be seen, it fits the Huawei foldable quite well. The image above is a montage, as is immediately obvious, still it is not fake. The images, nine in total, can be seen below, all of which were discovered in a new version of the Xiaomi Hyper Launcher, which will likely also run on Xiaomi’s future foldable as part of HyperOS.

    Display Format and Design Details

Accordingly the display format is either very wide for the unfolded foldable or less tall when folded then the current Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 from 2024. It’s successor is apparently set to launch this year, a few weeks ago rumors had already suggested that an other iPhone Fold competitor was in the works, meaning Xiaomi is also apparently opting for a more compact foldable phone format that looks set to become the norm this year.

    Specifications and Hardware Rumors

Not much is known about this Xiaomi foldable yet. Rumors point to a 200MP camera and a new Xiaomi chipset called Xring O3, while the name Xiaomi 18 Fold has also been circulating instead of Xiaomi Mix Fold 5. Unlike Samsung and Apple, this model is expected to feature a triple Leica camera, although a global launch may not be planned. However, the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max could launch in Europe for the first time in 2026, at least according to speculation.

Xiaomi Compact iPhone Ultra Rival: 200MP Leica Triple Cameras

    Key Takeaway

    – Compact, wide foldable form factor is becoming the new norm, with multiple brands aiming for a thin, wide design (Huawei leading, Samsung and others following).
    – Samsung reportedly preparing a thin, wide foldable (Galaxy Z Fold8) to compete with an anticipated iPhone Ultra/ Fold in September.
    – Xiaomi is tipped to join with a Mix Fold 5 (possibly rebranded as the Xiaomi 18 Fold), potentially marking a design shift from the Mix Fold 4, and may feature a 200MP main camera in a prototype.

    Overview and Speculation

A compact and wide design seems to be the new norm in the foldables space. After Huawei took the lead with the Pura X Max, Samsung is expected to follow suit in July by launching a thin foldable with a wide and compact form factor – reportedly called Galaxy Z Fold8 – in a bid to steal the spotlight from the Apple iPhone Ultra (aka iPhone Fold), rumored for a September debut. The chatter suggests a pivot toward more usable screens that fold gracefully, balancing portability with screen real estate. Some insiders hint at a design language that blends sturdiness with a lighter frame, though concrete specs remain unconfirmed as yet.

    Industry Claims and Naming

According to a leaker, Xiaomi is set to become the fourth company to join the fray for the best foldable in this emerging form factor. In two X posts, Kartikey Singh emphasized that the much-rumored Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 may not only end up being called the Xiaomi 18 Fold, but also mark a major departure from its predecessors, such as the Mix Fold 4, in terms of design. The rumors point toward a bold rethinking of hinge mechanics and screen layering, suggesting a device that could appeal to users who want both style and practicality in a single package.

    Prototype Details and Camera Rumors

Aside from the new form factor, the leaker also revealed several spec-related details about a prototype, which won’t necessarily make it into the final product. For now, the upcoming Xiaomi foldable is reportedly being tested with a triple-camera setup, similar to the Huawei Pura X Max. As with the Xiaomi 17 Max, its main camera is said to feature a 200MP sensor. However, it remains unclear whether this Xiaomi foldable will see a global launch, especially given that the compact Xiaomi Mix Flip phones have apparently been discontinued. The information paints a picture of ambitious imaging goals that may or may not survive the product development funnel.

  • Galaxy Z Fold 8 Width Leak Reveals Slimmer, Narrower Design Than Huawei Pura X Max

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Width Leak Reveals Slimmer, Narrower Design Than Huawei Pura X Max

    Key Takeaway

    1. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide features a significantly wider aspect ratio, marking a shift from traditional tall and narrow foldable designs.
    2. It is designed to be notably thinner than the Huawei Pura X Max, with a sleek profile of 4.3 mm unfolded and 9.8 mm folded.
    3. The device aims to balance ergonomic comfort with a near-traditional phone feel, potentially challenging Huawei’s dominance in the large foldable market.
    4. Display ratios indicate Samsung’s focus on more conventional proportions, differing from Huawei’s even wider screens.

    Market Trends in Foldable Tech

The foldable tech world is rapidly evolving, with manufacturers emphasizing wider aspect ratios for their devices. The latest leaks from long-time leaker Ice Universe reveal an interesting comparison between Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and Huawei’s recent Pura X Max. Huawei’s device has already made a mark as the first wide-style foldable on the market, and now Samsung is stepping into that same arena with a new design approach.

    Design and Dimensions

The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide stand out because it has a much more broad and chunky look then its past models. The company is clearly shifting away from its usual “tall and narrow” screens to a more spacious form. The leaked specs say that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is very thin, only about 4.3 mm when unfolded, and around 9.8 mm when folded, making it quite sleek for such a wide device. In the contrary, Huawei’s Pura X Max is notably larger and thicker, giving it a more substantial feel in hand.

    Display Ratios and User Experience

    • Samsung stick with the more traditional ratios, having a 4:3 inner display and a 4.7:3 outer display, aiming to keep things familiar for users.
    • Meanwhile, Huawei pushes wider with a 4.2:3 inner display and a 4.4:3 outer screen, providing more screen real estate, but possibly at the cost of a different user experience.

What This Means for the Market

If these leaked details are true, Samsung’s “Wide” foldable might be close in usability to a regular phone, combined with the slimness of a high-end tablet, which could be a game-changer. It potentially might threaten Huawei’s current hold on the large foldable market segments, offering consumers more options with better ergonomics and display sizes. Though, time will tell how these devices will actually perform in real-world use.

    Key Takeaway

    1. The Huawei Pura X Max features a wider foldable design with a 16:10 aspect ratio, bridging the gap between smartphones and tablets.
    2. It has officially introduced the “wide fold” trend, surpassing Samsung and Apple in this innovation race.
    3. The device will run HarmonyOS without Google Play Services, with initial release limited to China and global availability yet to be confirmed.

Leaked Images Show Huawei Pura X Max in Action

Recently, some real-world photos of the Huawei Pura X Max have been leaked online, giving us a first look at the device before its official launch set for April 20th. These images give a precious glimpse of this “wide foldable” which is highly awaited, showing it in use rather than just renders. The device looks promising, with a design that makes a good bridge between a phone and a tablet, owing to its wider 16:10 aspect ratio display.

    Design Highlights and Innovation

The live photos make it clear that the “wider foldable” concept is more real than ever. Huawei really pushed to bring this new form factor to the market first, outpacing competitors like Samsung with their Galaxy Z Fold8 Wide and Apple with their iPhone Ultra/Fold. This means Huawei is leading in the foldable tech game, and these images hint at a device that could change how we see foldable phones entirely.

    Market and Software Considerations

Huawei’s bold moves are about to change the game, with the Pura X Max running HarmonyOS, but without Google Play Services. Such restriction might make it less appealing in global markets, since the initial release is only confirmed for China. Outside the country, we will have to wait until more official information appears after the April 20 launch.

Summary of Specs and Future Outlook

The Pura X Max is expected to come with competitive specs, but specific details are still under wraps. Pricing info hasn’t been shared yet, but it’s likely to follow Huawei’s premium market approach. As the company advances their foldable lineup, it’s clear they’re not afraid of challenges, such as the US ban, which limits access to some global services. Still, the device’s innovative design and potential have everyone excited to see what Huawei can do next.

    3. The Pura X Max is set to launch in China on April 20, with pre-orders starting immediately; global availability remains unannounced.

Early Leak and Official Reveal of Huawei Pura X Max

Just a few days ago, a sketch of the Huawei Pura X Max poped up online, giving a first look at how the device might look like. Now, Huawei has gone ahead and officially shown the foldable phone. On Weibo, the brand shared the very first images of the device, confirming that the Pura X Max is actually real and that it will be availble soon.

    Design Focus and Market Position

While most peoples eyes are on the upcoming foldables like Galaxy Wide Fold and iPhone Fold, Huawei has decided to not wait around. The Pura X Max adopts a wide foldable shape instead of the slim, tall design that many other foldables have. This gives it a look more similar to a tablet when its fully unfolded, which might be better for watching media or doing several tasks at once.

Specs and Features Teased in Official Media

    • Triple rear camera setup
    • Colors available: white, black, purple, and orange

Huawei hasn’t shared the complete specs or prices yet, but the images and videos from their official posts give hints. They reveal a 7.5-inch main screen and a 5.3-inch outer display. Interestingly, these sizes match previous rumors that mentioned a similar size layout, kinda like what people said about Galaxy Wide Fold.

    Availability and Launch Date Announced

Pre-order for the Huawei Pura X Max is starting today in China, with the official launch set for April 20. But, so far, there’s no info about when it’ll be available outside China, so we will just need to wait and see if the device will be launched globally or not.

    Key Takeaway

    1. Huawei is preparing to compete in the foldable device market with the leaked “Pura X Max,” a wide foldable tablet-style device that could rival Samsung and Apple.
    2. The Pura X Max features a wider 16:10 aspect ratio and is based on the design language of the previous Pura X, emphasizing a trend toward broader foldable screens.
    3. The device’s wider form factor enhances multimedia and productivity experiences but may require “hand gymnastics” when closed.
    4. As with other Huawei phones, the Pura X Max likely won’t be available in the US and will lack Google Play services if released outside China.

Leaked Details about Huawei Pura X Max

While everyone is keeping their eyes peeled for the upcoming Galaxy Wide Fold and iPhone Ultra (or iPhone Fold), a new rumor has popped up that makes Huawei also quite interesting in the foldable market. A sketch of what they call the “Huawei Pura X Max” has been floating around, giving us hints about their first “tablet-style” wider foldable device. This is gonna what I call a shot across the bow to Samsung and Apple, so watch out!

    Design and Display Insights

The Huawei Pura X Max continues in the style of the original Huawei Pura X — which was kinda odd but also kinda cool. This design has really pushed the “wider fold” trend, and the Max version might even take the crown for originality since no one else is really doing a device with this size and shape yet, at least not in the same way. Most likely, whether Huawei releases it before or after the big-name brands, they will have a signature look that stands out. They kept the same wide 16:10 aspect ratio seen in the Pura X series. While the original Pura X was sorta a flip phone, the Max looks to be more like a tablet when fully opened, giving a whole new experience.

    Wider Foldable Form Factor

When talking about the bigger foldable phones, experienced users are pretty divided. Some say that the larger and wider screen makes multitasking and media viewing so much better when it’s open, like having a tiny tablet in your hands. But other folks argue that when you fold it up, the device’s width might be kinda cumbersome or awkward to hold — you’ll probably have to do “hand gymnastics” just to reach all parts of the screen. It’s a classic love-hate situation.

    Availability and Software Limitations

Just like on many Huawei phones launched over the past six years, don’t expect to see this Pura X Max in the US market anytime soon. Due to restrictions and trade bans, Huawei’s latest devices generally aren’t coming with Google Play services. So, even if the Pura X Max does launch, it’ll most likely be limited to certain regions, primarily China. This means that users outside of China may need to look for alternative ways to install apps and services, if possible.
