Sony introduced its top-tier Xperia 1 VI smartphone last month, showcasing a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and the advanced Exymor T main camera sensor. Now, just over a month since its release, there are already rumors about its successor, the Xperia 1 VII.
Sony Xperia 1 VII concept render
A Weibo user, 我打败大魔王, suggests that the traditional vertical camera layout might be altered. This change could accommodate a larger 1/2.3-inch telephoto sensor with a 70-200mm focal range, a significant upgrade from the Xperia 1 VI’s smaller sensor. Additionally, the ultrawide cameras might also be upgraded to 1/2.3-inch sensors while keeping the two-layer transistor pixel technology. The primary camera, however, will continue to feature a 1/1.3” sensor.
Potential Discontinuation of the Xperia 5 Series
Interestingly, the leak also mentions the possible discontinuation of the Xperia 5 series, potentially making the Xperia 1 Sony’s only high-end smartphone line. It should be noted that the tipster does not have a verified track record, so it's advisable to take this information with caution and await further confirmation.
