Previously called Evolve OS, Solus is a pretty unique Linux distribution that focuses on 64-bit hardware and is built on the Linux kernel, offering a variety of desktop environments. Currently, there are four desktop choices included in the official images. Just released yesterday, Solus 4.7 Endurance runs on the 6.12.9 kernel, an upgrade from the 6.10.13 seen in version 4.6. Notable improvements in this version include better support for video cards and the replacement of the solus-sc (Solus Software Center) package manager with a new one that has Flatpak support.

Moreover, it’s worth noting that users who prefer a Long-Term Support (LTS) kernel can opt for Solus that runs on the 6.6.70 kernel. Soon, the distribution will transition to the 6.12.x kernel series. Here are the key software packages that have been updated in the latest release:
Desktop Choices and System Requirements
The four options available on the official downloads page include: Solus Plasma, Solus Xfce-Beta, Solus GNOME, and Solus Budgie. Their file sizes range from 2.8 GB to 3.2 GB, and the system requirements are quite manageable, starting at less than 10 GB of disk space and requiring 4 GB of RAM. As previously stated, only 64-bit processors are supported.
