Gizmochina recently discovered the chipset within Xiaomi’s HyperOS software, identified by the model number “SM8735.” Notably, tipster Yogesh Brar has indicated that this chipset might debut in the first quarter of 2025.
Naming Convention and Model Numbers
Earlier speculations hinted that Qualcomm could alter the naming structure for its upcoming flagship chipset, potentially calling it ‘Snapdragon 8 Elite.’ However, the tipster believes the existing naming convention will stay the same. He also referenced the model number “SM8775” in his tweet, which is anticipated to be the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 4. Despite these rumors, no official confirmations have been made.
Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and Its Position
Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 in March of this year as a slightly underclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Although details about the new chipset remain sparse, it is likely that Qualcomm will adopt a similar approach as last year, where the ‘s’ branded chip will have a smaller footprint and lower cache memories, while still using the same CPU and GPU cores as the flagship model.
Alternative Performance Options
The introduction of the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 may align with the notion that the top-tier flagship chip will have a higher price tag than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This could lead to a wider array of budget-friendly, performance-driven devices utilizing the ‘s’ branded chipset, which can still deliver commendable performance for demanding applications. An example of this is the Redmi Turbo 3, which employs the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip.
As for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, it is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of this year, with numerous flagship devices featuring this chipset set to arrive in the first quarter of next year. Among these are the vivo X200 Ultra, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. According to the GeekBench benchmark database, the performance core of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 can reach speeds of 4.47GHz.
