Samsung has rolled out several security features like Knox and Secure Folder for Galaxy devices in recent years. The company has now added two more security features to this lineup – Quick Share Private Sharing and Samsung Cloud Enhanced Data Protection.
Quick Share Private Sharing
Samsung introduces a built-in “privacy-preserving file-sharing function” called Quick Share Private Sharing. This feature ensures that your shared data remains confidential, without the risk of it being visible or accessible to unintended recipients.
With this private sharing option, only the designated recipients can open the shared files. Users can set permissions and expiration dates, ensuring the data is viewable for a limited time. Additional functionalities include giving read-only access, revoking data access, restricting screenshots, and tracking when the recipient received and opened the file.
This feature supports sharing up to 20 files simultaneously with a total size of up to 200MB. Samsung uses blockchain-based encryption technology for enhanced security.
To use this feature, follow these steps: Select file > Quick Share > Three dots (more options) > Turn on Private sharing. Once the message is sent, users can monitor the sent files and modify the expiration date or revoke sharing permissions.
Samsung Cloud Enhanced Data Protection
Samsung's Enhanced Data Protection aims to secure user data in the Samsung Cloud. Starting with the Galaxy S24, this feature provides additional protection for Galaxy devices when user data is synced or backed up with Samsung Cloud. It aims to prevent data loss through end-to-end encryption (E2EE), ensuring that data can only be encrypted or decrypted on the user's device, making it inaccessible to others. This means user data remains secure even if the server is compromised or account details are stolen.
Users will need to write down a recovery code during the activation of this feature to prevent data loss if the device is stolen or damaged. To activate this feature, follow these steps: Samsung Cloud > Three dots (more options) > Settings > Enhanced data protection. Alternatively, go to Settings > Security and privacy > More security settings > Enhanced data protection.
