Realme 14 Pro Launching in January with Color-Changing Back Panel

Realme has made it official that the Realme 14 Pro series is launching in January 2025, generating a lot of excitement. This mid-range smartphone lineup is expected to introduce some really cool features, like a color-changing rear panel that reacts to cold, making it a unique option in its class.

A Unique Rear Panel

The series will likely include two versions: the Realme 14 Pro and the Realme 14 Pro Plus. The standout feature is the innovative rear panel that shifts color when temperatures drop below 16 degrees Celsius. This is different from the UV-sensitive color-change seen in the Realme 9 Pro Plus, as the Realme 14 Pro Plus uses cold-sensitive tech created with help from Valeur Designers.

The rear can change from pearl white to bright blue, thanks to real seashell pearl powder and micro-capsules with special pigments. Each phone will have its own unique design due to the differences in how the powder is mixed. However, users should note that this feature has a downside; too much sunlight can lessen its effectiveness over time, and it’s expected to last for up to 12 months with regular use.

Impressive Display and Camera Features

Another great aspect of the Realme 14 Pro Plus is its bezel-less quad-curved display for an all-encompassing visual experience. On the back, there’s a circular camera module located in the center, equipped with three LED flashes known as “MagicGlow” to improve low-light photography. The phone also has water-resistance ratings of IP68 and IP69, which allows for underwater photography by using the volume button as a shutter.

Under the hood, the Realme 14 Pro Plus packs the advanced Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset (as per Geekbench tests), built on a 4nm process by TSMC. This chip offers a 40% increase in GPU performance and a 20% boost in CPU performance over the previous model, plus a 30% enhancement in AI capabilities and better power efficiency.

Camera and Battery Capabilities

Rumor has it that the phone will feature a 1.5K quad-curved display with super-slim 1.6mm bezels. Its camera system includes a combination of 50 MP + 8 MP + 50 MP, with one of the 50 MP lenses being a Sony IMX 882 periscope telephoto lens, allowing for 3x zoom.

Realme is also speculated to include 80W fast charging and possibly a silicon-carbon battery, which might offer a capacity of 6,000 mAh or more. While the official price hasn’t been revealed yet, the Realme 14 Pro Plus is anticipated to start around IDR 6 million in Indonesia, similar to its older model.

The Realme 14 Pro series is set to blend innovative features with premium qualities, aiming to raise the bar for mid-range smartphones.
