Back in December 2024, PorteuX 1.8 was released, bringing along a few minor updates. Now, it’s time for PorteuX 1.9 to take center stage. The changes may not be extensive, but there are some notable features that are definitely worth mentioning.
Desktop Environments and Fixes
The seven desktop environments haven’t changed; they are still Cinnamon, GNOME, KDE Plasma, LXDE, LXQt, MATE, and Xfce. PorteuX 1.9 addresses a range of issues, including the x265 encoding problem, display errors in procps apps, and multiple issues with Xfce 4.20, among others. Improvements have been made in support for various network devices, CUPS in GTK3, and Docker compatibility. Additionally, GPT compatibility is now part of the Linux installer. Regarding optimizations, the updates include GCC build flags and 0050-multilib-lite stripping, along with other adjustments.
Package Updates and Size
The package updates consist of the 6.13.1 kernel, the Nvidia driver version 570.86.16, Cinnamon 6.4.6, GNOME 47.3, and KDE 6.10.0. Moreover, some outdated packages like fuse from 002-gui and mp4v2 from 002-xtra have been removed. The ISO files continue to be the same size, ranging from 477 to 573 MB, meaning PorteuX 1.9 can be conveniently installed on USB drives with just 1 GB of space.
