Zhou Yibao, the Product Manager for the OPPO Find Series, has announced that the Oppo Find X8 lineup will feature silicon-carbon anode batteries, which OPPO terms as glacier batteries.
Innovative Battery Technology
For those who might not be aware, this novel battery technology offers a significantly higher energy density of 763Wh/L, leading the industry compared to traditional graphite batteries. This advancement enables the integration of larger battery capacities into more compact designs.
Earlier reports from Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station suggested that the Oppo Find X8, Find X8 Pro, and Find X8 Ultra will be equipped with 5,600 mAh, 5,700 mAh, and either 6,100 or 6,200 mAh batteries, respectively. For comparison, the Find X7 and Find X7 Ultra models carry 5,000 mAh batteries.
Adoption and Advantages
This innovative battery technology was first seen in the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro launched in June, where its energy density was reported to be 23.1% higher than that of traditional graphite batteries. Thin foldable devices like the Honor Magic V2 and the newly introduced Magic V3 have also benefited from this technology.
The product manager of the OPPO Find series also highlighted that their Glacier Battery has achieved the highest industry standard of 6% negative electrode silicon-carbon content. Technically, an increase in silicon content results in increased energy density.
Future Prospects
Naturally, there are limitations to increasing the silicon content in the anode, so it's promising to see smartphone manufacturers striving to extend battery life without compromising user experience. According to an official statement, Oppo is collaborating with CATL, a leading Li-Ion battery manufacturer in China, to develop a battery technology cooperation strategy for the coming 1-3 years. This initiative is anticipated to establish a robust foundation for the battery life of future OPPO Find X series devices.
