OPPO and Ericsson Sign 5G Patent Cross-Licensing Agreement

OPPO and Ericsson have officially established a global strategic partnership. The agreement, as reported by CNMO, involves cross-licensing of global patents and encompasses several key areas, including technical cooperation and market promotion. This alliance is seen as a significant step in the collaborative efforts between the two companies within the global communications sector.

OPPO officials stated, “We are pleased to announce that we have reached a global cooperation agreement with Ericsson.” The patent cross-licensing deal indicates that both companies are dedicated to sharing cellular communication standard essential patents, particularly 5G standards, facilitating mutual access to patented technologies.

Technological Advancements and Patent Achievements

Since its inception in 2004, Oppo has been active in developing pivotal technology fields such as mobile communications. The company has consistently converted technological innovations into valuable intellectual property rights.

As of June 30, 2024, OPPO had filed over 103,000 global patent applications, with more than 57,000 patents granted. Notably, invention patent applications comprised about 91% of these filings.

The company has maintained a position among the top ten globally in terms of international patent treaty (PCT) applications published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for five consecutive years. Additionally, OPPO has established 5G communication standard patents in over 40 countries and regions worldwide, accomplished more than 6,200 families of global patent applications, and declared over 3,700 families of 5G standard patents at ETSI.

Future Prospects

The strategic collaboration between OPPO and Ericsson is anticipated to further enhance deep cooperation and drive technological innovation in the communications field.

Furthermore, OPPO is heavily invested in the development of artificial intelligence, with an ambitious goal to integrate AI into 50 million devices by the end of this year.
