Key Takeaways
1. Realme is preparing to launch a flagship phone with minimal leaks, a rarity in the smartphone industry.
2. The phone is expected to feature a 10x optical zoom capability and a 1-inch camera sensor.
3. Teasers suggest the smartphone may have a detachable lens system, indicated by packaging and camera module visuals.
4. There are similarities to Xiaomi’s 12S Ultra concept, which also featured a detachable lens but was never widely released.
5. The official reveal is set for the Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona next week.
Realme seems to have done the unthinkable by getting ready to launch a flagship phone about which we know almost nothing. This is quite rare in today’s world, as flagship models typically come with numerous leaks before their official launch. The information we have on the Realme camera flagship, which is expected to be revealed at the Mobile World Congress 2025 in Barcelona next week, comes mainly from Realme itself, and it’s not a whole lot.
Teasers and Zoom Features
After an initial teaser about a 10x zoom capability, recent teasers and sample images have confirmed a 1-inch sensor along with a 10x optical telephoto lens. A teaser video appears to show a person holding a smartphone that has a larger lens on its back, which seems to be supported by another new teaser video from Realme.
The video offers two signs of a smartphone featuring a detachable lens. One is the packaging image displaying symbols for both the smartphone and the lens. The second sign is a quick view of the camera module, revealing an exposed sensor in the center. There are also two additional camera sensors (including optics) placed above it, suggesting that the possibly named Realme Ultra phone can be utilized even without the dockable lens.
Concept Similarities
This idea isn’t entirely fresh. Alongside the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Xiaomi introduced a comparable concept with the same name back in 2022, which had room for two 1-inch sensors, one of which was left open for a Leica lens to be attached (see below). Although this concept smartphone was never released as a widely available item, it remains uncertain if the Realme Ultra will take a different path. Nonetheless, it stands as an intriguing and still largely enigmatic addition to the world of camera smartphones.
