Amazon may soon reveal a new version of the entry-level Kindle that debuted in 2022. This upcoming device, expected to be called the 12th-generation Kindle, has had some details and images leaked ahead of its anticipated launch.
Anticipated Features
Rumors about new Kindle devices have been circulating for some time, supported by certification listings and low stock of certain models on Amazon. Recently, Good e-Reader has shared information about the new Kindle, which is said to be launching in just a few days.
According to an unnamed Spanish retailer, the new entry-level Kindle will maintain the same 6-inch size and 300 PPI resolution as the current 11th generation. However, the display is reported to be 25% brighter, with improved contrast and a new dark mode available throughout the system.
Design and Specifications
The new Kindle will feature smoother page transitions, although it will not include physical page turn buttons. Other specifications include 16GB of storage, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi, and USB-C connectivity. The device is expected to last up to 8 weeks on a single charge, but there is no information about warm light support or waterproof capabilities.
The listing also shows an image of the upcoming Kindle in Match Green, along with Black as the other available color. Visually, the 12th-gen Kindle appears similar to the 11th-gen model, featuring a recessed screen, a thicker bottom bezel, and a rounded back. Its dimensions are 10.85 x 15.78 x 0.8 cm and it weighs 154 grams, which is slightly lighter than the 11th generation.
Pricing and Release Date
The expected list price for the 12th-gen Kindle is €119, though it is unclear if this includes ads. The 11th-gen Kindle was priced at $99.99 with ads and $120 without ads at launch. More pricing details should be revealed when the device officially launches on October 1, 2024.
