McLaren Racing Partners with TDK for Formula E Collaboration

Earlier today, Reuters shared that TDK has partnered with McLaren Racing for Formula E. TDK is a leading supplier of batteries to many smartphone manufacturers, like Apple. Once a major player in the now obsolete cassette tape industry, it stands out as the largest smartphone battery supplier worldwide. It's natural that TDK is focusing on Formula E, where it can enhance new technologies for future consumer use. The well-known team, McLaren, was established in 1963 and began competing in Formula E during the 2022-2023 season, kicking off with the 2023 Mexico City ePrix.

TDK's Vision for Technology

Taro Iukushima, who is the CEO of TDK Electronic Components Business Company, stated:

"Formula E technology is always at the cutting edge of EVs, and we want them to utilize our components so we can sharpen our technology."

TDK plans to incorporate various components into its Formula E activities, such as ceramic capacitors and temperature sensors. Established in 1935, TDK now sees approximately 25% of its sales coming from the automotive sector. This year, TDK's share price increased by 39%, compared to a mere 13% rise in Japan's broader Topix index.

McLaren's Performance in Formula E

After 32 races in Formula E, the McLaren Racing team has achieved four pole positions, three podium finishes, and a single victory, totaling 189 points. Remarkably, at the 2023 London ePrix, McLaren became the first team in motorsport history to showcase a livery created with the help of AI technology.

While cassette tapes may not be popular anymore, fans of vintage technology can still find TDK products online. For example, on Amazon, you can purchase a pack of 6 TDK Superior Normal Bias D90 blank tapes for $25.78.

In conclusion, TDK's collaboration with McLaren Racing is an exciting development in the automotive and technology sectors, illustrating how companies can evolve and adapt to new markets.
