Huawei's Upcoming P70 Series: Camera Sensor and Lens Details Revealed
Huawei has recently made a comeback with the launch of its Mate 60 series, which is powered by the in-house HiSilicon Kirin 9000s chip. Excitingly, rumors suggest that the company is already working on its next project, the P70 series, set to be released in 2024.
Three Models in the Lineup
Similar to the Huawei P60 series, the P70 series is expected to consist of three different models: Huawei P70, Huawei P70 Pro, and Huawei P70 Art. While not much information is available about these smartphones, a reliable source has revealed details about the camera sensor and lens that will be used in the most premium model.
The Top-End Model's Camera Sensor and Lens
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the P70 Art, which is the highest-end model in the lineup, will feature a 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor. What sets this camera sensor apart is its pairing with a 1G6P glass-plastic hybrid lens.
Uncommon Lens Type
The only other smartphone currently on the market that utilizes a similar lens, specifically a 1G3P lens, is the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This lens is used for the tetraprism zoom camera in the device.
Advantages of Glass-Plastic Hybrid Lenses
Glass-plastic hybrid lenses offer superior optical performance and are more resistant to deformation. Leading manufacturers of this type of lens include Largan and Sunny Optical.
Cost and Future Adoption
At the prototype stage, the 1G6P lens that Huawei plans to incorporate costs around $12. However, it is expected that the cost will decrease to $6-7 during mass production as yield rates improve. It is anticipated that other smartphone brands, including Apple and Huawei, will follow suit and adopt glass-plastic hybrid lenses.
Launch Timeline
The Huawei P70 series is rumored to be launched in March 2024. Following its release, Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Vivo X100 Ultra are set to be launched in April.
With Huawei's focus on innovation and the inclusion of cutting-edge camera technology, smartphone enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the release of the P70 series.
