A user of the Xiaomi SU7 recently inquired why the 50W wireless charging in their car sometimes seems sluggish. The company provided a response to this query.
The Xiaomi SU7 features a wireless charging pad rated at 50W. However, the company's official noted that the actual charging speed is influenced by several factors, including compatibility with different phone models and the phone's status during the charging process.
Compatibility and Charging Speeds
For devices utilizing the Qi charging protocol, the charging speed is capped at 15W, while Xiaomi devices can achieve the full 50W. Factors such as temperature and ongoing background processes can also impact the charging speed. This is true for the phone's internal charging system as well.
Qi and Proprietary Protocols
The SU7’s wireless charging system supports both Qi and Xiaomi’s proprietary wireless charging protocol. However, the phone must be compatible with one of these protocols and support 50W wireless charging. Xiaomi devices that meet these criteria can reportedly receive up to 50W on the SU7 charging pad. However, the Xiaomi 13 Pro, which has a smaller coil, can only reach 30W on this pad.
Other Android devices that use the Qi protocol are limited to a 15W charging speed with the SU7. Apple devices, which operate on a specific frequency band of the Qi protocol, can only charge at a speed of 7.5W.
Proper Placement Matters
Improper placement of the phone on the charging pad, where the charging coils are not aligned, can also impede energy transmission and slow down charging speeds. This issue is common across all brands, models, and charging protocols and applies to every wireless charging system.
