HMD Fusion Smartphone Leak: Snapdragon 778G SoC

HMD Global is apparently working on the HMD Fusion, a mid-tier smartphone with a design that feels familiar. Unlike the HMD Skyline, which has a classic Nokia Lumia aesthetic, the Fusion appears to draw inspiration from the existing Pulse Pro model.

The Fusion is anticipated to come with a sizable 6.6-inch 1080p IPS screen, featuring a 120Hz refresh rate. Internally, it will likely be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G variant (QCM6490), complemented by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The camera setup is expected to include a 108MP main sensor, a 2MP secondary sensor, and a 16MP front camera.

Battery and Connectivity

The device will be fueled by a 4,800mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging. It is also expected to offer WiFi 6E and include a 3.5mm headphone jack. What distinguishes the Fusion is its pogo pins designed for modular accessories termed “smart outfits.” These magnetic attachments hint at functionalities akin to Apple’s MagSafe, potentially adding features such as an extra rear camera, wireless charging, or even a gaming controller.

Design and Build

According to the leak, the Fusion will measure 164mm x 76mm x 8.6mm, constructed using recycled aluminum and plastic, and will weigh around 200 grams. However, no details are available regarding the launch date or pricing for the HMD Fusion.
