Jaime Griesemer was involved in creating the environment and layout for The Silent Cartographer in Halo: Combat Evolved. He also contributed to finishing Halo 3: ODST and Reach. In a post on X, he shared some issues he had with the gameplay that didn’t quite resonate with him. He mentioned,
“You’re not meant to take the Warthog to steamroll the Hunters.
I put rocks in the way to force players to confront them on foot. When you can just smash the crates aside, it ruins the encounters. And the worst part? They’ve added trees in the landing zone of the WooHoo Jump. That’s just lame.”
Gameplay Changes that Upset Fans
In the original game, Master Chief is meant to approach the two Hunters on foot. However, in Halo: Campaign Evolved, Master Chief drives a Warthog and swiftly defeats the two Hunters, which Griesemer believes undermines the mission’s pacing entirely.
He further elaborated, “It’s like a dance remix of a timeless song that skips the intro and the bridge and just pounds the chorus endlessly.”
Mixed Reactions from the Community
On the other hand, some creators, including Marcus Lehto, who co-created Halo and served as the original art director, expressed excitement about the new direction.
