Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S25 series has been making headlines frequently this month. Today, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has surfaced on Geekbench, giving us insight into its potential performance.
Performance Insights
Samsung customizes its flagship S-series smartphones with “Snapdragon for Galaxy” chips, and the chip seen with the S25 Ultra is likely the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 “for Galaxy” version. On Geekbench, the Galaxy S25 Ultra achieved scores of 3,096 in single-core tests and 9,080 in multi-core tests. These figures are lower than those recorded by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in the OnePlus 13, which scored 3,296 and 10,049 in single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.
However, it’s crucial to note that these benchmarks are likely preliminary, and further optimizations are anticipated to enhance performance. With Android 15 installed and ample time before its expected launch in early 2025, both Samsung and Qualcomm have opportunities to refine the chip’s performance for the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Chip Differences
The Geekbench listing also highlights some distinctions between the chips found in Samsung and OnePlus devices. Notably, the Samsung version features slightly downclocked cores. The performance cores, which handle intensive tasks, operate at 4.19 GHz, while the OnePlus 13 runs at 4.32 GHz. Likewise, the efficiency cores in the S25 Ultra are clocked at 2.90 GHz, lower than the 3.53 GHz in the OnePlus model. This could explain why the S25 Ultra scored lower on Geekbench than the OnePlus 13. On a positive note, the benchmark’s back-end code indicates that the chip maintained its boost clock without any throttling, which is encouraging.
Future Improvements
As previously mentioned, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is still several months away from its expected launch in January. Samsung has sufficient time to implement enhancements and elevate its overall performance. In the meantime, the company is gearing up for the launch of its new tablets and the S24 FE smartphone, set for September 26 — this Thursday.
